Mass shooting at child daycare centre in Thailand kills 31 – including children and adults: Manhunt underway for ex-cop

  • Former police officer Panya Khamrap is on the run after horror nursery massacre
  • Dozens of blood-soaked bodies were strewn across the Thai daycare centre
  • The guman fled the scene in a white pickup truck as police launch manhunt

At least 31 have been killed in a horror mass shooting at a children’s daycare centre in Thailand, police have said.

Children and adults are among the dead and a manhunt is underway for a former police officer.

Dozens of blood-soaked bodies were scattered across the floor and in the grounds outside the nursery.

The suspect has been named by police as Panya Khamrap who was allegedly fired from the force last year after failing a drugs test, and was due in court tomorrow.

He escaped in a white four-door Vigo pickup truck and the bumper fell off as he fled.

The massacre occurred in Nong Bua Lamphu, in the northeast of the Southeast Asian country.

The prime minister has alerted all agencies to take action and apprehend the culprit, a government spokesperson said.

The rate of gun ownership in Thailand is high compared with some other countries in the region but official figures do not include huge numbers of illegal weapons, many of which have been brought in across porous borders over the years from strife-torn neighbours.

Mass shootings are rare but in 2020, a soldier angry over a property deal gone sour killed at least 29 people and wounded 57 in a rampage that spanned four locations.
