A town in the western Mexican state of Michoacán inscribed its name in the Guinness World Records after creating the largest serving of guacamole.

It took at least 300 men and women in the municipality of Peribán just 3 hours and 30 minutes Sunday to make 4,970 kilos (10,956 pounds) of guac.

The massive batch consisted of 10 tons of avocados that were grown in Peribán orchards and were mixed with onions, tomatoes, pepper, lime and cilantro.

The event was live streamed to Guinness World Records officials, who were unable to attend but confirmed the new record Sunday evening.

‘We achieved the objective of gathering everything that was required to make more than 4 tons of guacamole, which was not easy, in addition to the preparation and the fact that it was finished so quickly,’ Peribán Mayor Alfredo Arroyo said, as quoted by El Heraldo de Mexico.

The serving surpassed the previous record of 3,788 kilos (8,351 pounds) that more than 350 people prepared in the nearby town of Tancítaro on April 6, 2018.

The prior record belonged to the Jalisco city of Concepción de Buenos Aires, where a wholesaler gathered more than 815 people to produce a serving of 2,980 kilos in 2017.

The record-setting guacamole event was part of the 2022 Avocado Expo that was held over the weekend

The serving surpassed the previous record of 3,788 kilos (8,351 pounds) that more than 350 people prepared in the nearby town of Tancítaro on April 6, 2018

The latest record-setting event was part of the 2022 Avocado Expo that was held over the weekend in Peribán.

The group got its feet wet with a test run November 15 and made 100 kilos of guacamole.

Two days later, a trailer dropped off the giant saucepan needed to hold the massive dip.

The previous record  for the largest serving of guacamole totaled 3,788 kilos (8,351 pounds) and it was made by more than 350 people prepared in Tancítaro, Mexico, on April 6, 2018

Francisco Farías attended the event with his family and was impressed with the final product.

‘For such a large guacamole, the ingredients were perfect, everything was well balanced,’ Farías told El Heraldo de Mexico. ‘The flavor of the avocado has a lot to do with it.’

The state of Michoacán is the sole provider avocados – considered ‘green gold’ – to the United States, but producers were temporarily banned from exporting across the border in February after a cartel threatened a USDA food inspector. 

Peribán ranks seventh in production and exportation of avocados.

‘The result was very good. Peribán has outdone itself, it’s a great joy for us,’ said Mercedes Cervantes, president of the organizing committee. said. ‘Our main goal is to promote Peribán, which is known [in Mexico] but not internationally. We want people to know that Peribán produces avocados of the highest quality and flavor.’
