AN 18-year-old girl plunged to her death after reportedly trying to stop her dog chasing a rabbit as she walked along cliffs in Devon.

The teen, named locally as Keeleigh Plant, fell from cliffs near Hope Cove.

The horror occurred on Friday afternoon with Coastguard being alerted to the girl at around 3.45pm.

Around an hour later Devon and Cornwall Police were informed about what happened and the teenager was confirmed dead at the scene.

Kingsbridge Community College, at which Keeleigh was a Year 13 student, has since reportedly paid tribute to a "much loved daughter, sister, aunty and friend".

Principal Tina Graham said: "I know you will join me in sending our deepest love and thoughts to her family at this time."

"There will be additional adults and colleagues from The Educational Psychology Service in college and available to provide additional support as necessary."

The college is offering support today and and onwards for "students and staff who would like someone to talk to", reports local news site South Hams.

Ms Graham added: "The next few days may be difficult for all, but it will be important to maintain our normal routines whilst allowing everyone to grieve in their own way and in their own time.

South Hams reported that the teenager had been walking her dog with her boyfriend when she tried to stop the dog chasing a rabbit and tripped.
