For 25 years, music lovers avidly tuned in to Ken Bruce’s Radio Two show to play along as two contestants pitted their pop knowledge against each other in the iconic PopMaster quiz.

When Ken left the BBC he took PopMaster with him and now the quiz is bigger and better than ever – reinvented for television, with a new More4 series that starts next week, challenging music obsessives to recall facts and stats about chart hits from the 1950s to present day.

Each episode five contestants will battle over six rounds to see who will come out on top as ‘Original PopMaster’. Episode winners will then advance to a Grand Final where they will vye to be crowned PopMaster TV champion.

‘The new TV show is exactly as we would have imagined it when we created it all those years ago, warm and friendly, with the focus on the music,’ explains Ken, when talking about the notoriously challenging pop quiz.

‘There’s no Mr Nasty, but we can’t give a silver or gold disc to everyone and only one person will be crowned PopMaster TV Champion.’

He adds: ‘Our contestants in this new series have amazing musical knowledge. They are such big music fans – I’m in awe of them, really. People ask if I’d be any good, but I’m much better at reading out the questions than answering them!’
