TikToker who hit golf ball and ‘threw’ club into Grand Canyon faces charges

A TikTok user is facing the possibility of criminal charges after she filmed herself pelting a golf ball into the Grand Canyon and throwing the golf club in afterwards.

The brazen clip sparked fury after it was uploaded to the popular video sharing platform, leading the uploader to delete the footage – but not before the National Parks Service had identified who was responsible.

Officials asked: “Do we really need to say, ‘don’t hit golf balls into the Grand Canyon'?”

In a statement, they added: “On October 26, an individual posted a video to her personal TikTok page showing her hitting a golf ball and throwing a golf club into the canyon near Mather Point.

“On October 27, Grand Canyon Law Enforcement identified, located and contacted the individual responsible for the incident.

“Charges and a court appearance for the individual are pending.

“Throwing objects over the rim of the canyon is not only illegal but can also endanger hikers and wildlife who may be below.”

A video of the careless stunt reposted to Reddit shows the golfer perched on the cliff-edge preparing to take the shot, before she swings back and hits the ball with such power half the club snaps in half and soars over the edge.

Experts from the national park warned throwing any object into the famous canyon can have dire consequences for both wildlife and hikers.

It can also lead to landslides at the landmark, which measures an impressive mile in depth and 278 miles in length.

Flying golf balls could also interfere with some of the 91 mammal species found in the Grand Canyon, as well as 58 reptiles and 18 different types of fish.
