THIS is the astonishing moment a woman cheated death by inches as an out-of-control car smashed into a lamppost beside her.
Steph Cudmore, 39, from Derby, was walking her dog Rufus on a quiet residential street when a Volkswagen Golf came at them.
CCTV footage of the crash just before 6pm on Monday shows the motor hurtle around the street corner into the lamppost, knocking over Steph and sending mini Schnauzer Rufus flying.
The mum-of-one said: "I had not long turned onto Donington Drive when I heard tyre screeches and a car nearby.
"As I walked on I saw the silver Volkswagen coming very quickly from the right and turn the corner into Donington Drive.
"I did not know what was going to happen and actually wondered if I would need to move out of the way but did not actually think I would need to.

"I saw the car lose control and come straight at me. I remember time slowing down and looking down at my legs as the car approached me.
"It was less than half a metre in front of me when I decided to move out of the way.

"I felt my legs go and I was on the floor and I heard the bang from the car hitting the lamp post.
She added: "My immediate thought was for the driver's and passenger's wellbeing as I saw the airbags had gone off."
"However, as soon as the doors opened and the young lads started running, I yelled asking what they were thinking.
"I may have shouted a few expletives here but I am not going to apologise for that.
"I was in complete shock and struggled to take it all in."
The mum-of-one was left "shaking" as the driver and passenger quickly fled the scene.
She said: "If I hadn’t moved when I did, I would have been crushed against the post.
"Both the driver and the passenger got out and legged it without stopping."
"I suddenly realised I did not know where Rufus was. I thought he was under a wheel but quickly realised he'd run off, so I ran after him.
"He had run home and was sitting on the lawn of a neighbour's house opposite ours, stock still and shaking."
NEAR MISS
Rufus and Steph were both lucky to escape with minor cuts and bruises.
The impact of the collision tore a gaping hole in the car and left the lamppost leaning precariously over the pavement.
Steph said: "I had fallen to the floor so now have bruising on my left thigh along with grazing.
"Rufus is incredibly lucky and has come away shaken with a couple of cuts, but that’s it.
"The lamppost saved my dog's life and I do not want to even think what would have happened if my son or anyone else was with me.
"As Rufus is only a one-year-old dog, he has plenty of time left to enjoy life and forget this ever happened."
Derbyshire Police said: "We’re investigating a collision in Donington Drive, Derby, at around 5.50pm on Monday, May 22.

It has been a tough few weeks for Steph, as she was recently the victim of another hit-and-run – this time as a driver, with her son Charlie in the car.
