As Ukraine marks six months since Russian forces invaded, the country has come together to celebrate the nation’s Independence Day. In a fiery statement to mark the occasion, Ukrainian MP Kira Rudik has issued a clear warning to Moscow that Ukraine shows no signs of bowing to Russia’s brutal campaign of violence. Speaking to GB News, Ms Rudik said: “We did not think we would get to this. It is a very happy day for us because we are around, we are alive and we are ready to fight like never before.”
The Ukrainian MP spoke of how Independence Day had united the nation to condemn Moscow’s continued pursuit to bring the country under Kremlin control.
Ms Rudik said: “This is the first year that we are celebrating Independence Day as a nation that is truly united and truly behind one cause.
“We know what we are fighting for and we know what is at stake and we know the way that we want to win.
“This is incredibly important and there is a feeling that we have never had before.”
Six months into the conflict, the defending forces of Ukraine have succeeded in deterring Russian military operations to capture Kyiv and continue to defend other key regions against aggression.
Intelligence reports from the conflict suggest Ukraine plans to advance defensive operations to take back Russian-occupied territories that have been placed under the control of Kremlin proxy authorities.
Ukraine’s forces have targeted Russian supply routes into the city of Kherson in an effort to force Moscow’s troops out of the region, which they have controlled since the early weeks of the war.
The UK Ministry of Defence confirmed primary road bridges leading into the area had been destroyed. An intelligence report read: “Even if Russia manages to make significant repairs to the bridges, they will likely remain a key vulnerability.”

Ms Rudik added: “Today marks six months of war – remember in the first month, nobody actually believed that we would stand for more than a couple of days, maybe a week.
“That is why it is so important to show that we are here, we are standing.
“In the first week, Putin promised that he would have a military parade in our central street and today we are exhibiting destroyed Russian weapons and war machines there.
“Kids can play with them and people are taking pictures with them and we are showing that we defended ourselves and we are able to push back.”

Ahead of Independence Day, Ukrainian authorities held a mock parade of destroyed Russian military vehicles through the main square of Kyiv, where the equipment remains on display for visitors to see.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence posted footage of the wrecked vehicles to social media with a statement that read: “In February, Russian’s were planning a parade in downtown Kyiv.
“Six months into the large-scale war, the shameful display of rusty Russian metal is a reminder to all dictators of how their plans may be ruined by a free and courageous nation.”
The exhibition of fractured weapons has exposed the huge scale of equipment loss Russia has suffered since the beginning of the conflict. Reports have confirmed the loss of over 5,000 pieces of military equipment, with many more expected to be unaccounted for.
