RESIDENTS in a posh town have said they don't want a TK Maxx store in their wealthy home.
Locals in Weybridge, Surrey, slammed the new store with some labelling it "tacky".
The shop opened it's doors in the posh town this week as bemused shopkeepers in surrounding stores shook their heads at lengthy queues.
One retail shop owner on Baker Street, who didn't want to be named, said: "I do think some people in Weybridge may feel like it's bringing the standards down a little bit.
"A lot of people have an idea that TK Maxx is tacky – especially in this area."
Shoppers queued for more than two hours for the store's opening last week in Paddock Retail Park in Brooklands.
Claudine Angear, 43, who owns a jewellery shop on Weybridge's High Street, said she was concerned it spelled the death of the high street.
She added: "People don't shop on their town's high streets anymore because they can just go to these big business parks where they can find Tesco or M&S for food, John Lewis for their interiors, Currys for their electronics.
"And if there's also a TKMaxx for clothes, then why not go to TKMaxx as well?
"A lot of retail stores have closed around here. Empty shops in this town are a big problem."

Another local, who gave her name only as Jane, said she wasn't a fan of the discount store.
She said: "I personally don't like TKMaxx. But the new branch is in a business park, sort of tucked away from the town centre – and it's convenient.
"If it were in the High Street, it would not have been a good fit. But as long as it stays where it is, it will not affect us business owners on the High Street."
The new store is adjacent to the Lidl store, behind the huge 24-hour Tesco Extra and petrol station and M&S.
And it is just around the corner from Brooklands Museum and Mercedes-Benz World.
The new store is spread over two floors, selling fashion for men, women and children, accessories, beauty products and home items.
It is promised that some items could be heavily discounted by up to 60%.
