ABI FISHER was a 29-year-old mother, wife, daughter and school teacher loved by many.

Her body was found dead in a South Yorkshire road on July 11 and here is what you need to know about her and her death, which is thought to be murder.

Who was Abi Fisher?

Abi Fisher was a 29-year-old school teacher from Castleford in Yorkshire.

People described her to be "beautiful" and "amazing" as they explained it to be "a cruel world" after her murder.

In 2017, she got married to Matthew Fisher and then became a mother to a baby girl who is only six months old.

Alex Johnson, a family member, was left speechless following her relative's death while Jordan Kenworthy said: "Abi was such a nice lass.

"Went to school with her and she wouldn't hurt a fly."

Hayley Power also had great things to say about her friend: "Abi was a wonderful person and an amazing teacher to the children in our school.

The headteacher of the school, Matthew Jones added: "She will be remembered as an enthusiastic, kind and caring teacher and colleague, who gave her all each day.

"In particular, her passion for science inspired countless children over the years – she made a real difference to so many lives."

A school mum said: "Mrs Abi Fisher, a teacher at my daughter's school, an absolutely amazing person."

What happened to Abi Fisher?

Abi left her house on the evening of Friday, July 8, 2022 and did not let her family know where she was going.

Not hearing anything from her before midnight on that day, her family warned the police explaining how it was "completely out of character" for Abi to disappear.

A missing person investigation was launched by the police while they called the Castleford community for help to conduct further searches in an effort to find the school teacher.

On Monday, July 11, Abi's body was found off Southmoor Road near Brierley in South Yorkshire.

While notifying the family, the police also made a public announcement.

They said that anyone who drove on the B6273 Southmoor Road between Hemsworth and Great Houghton from 8.15am and 9.15 on Saturday, July 9 is being urged to contact officials by calling 101.

People can also submit dashcam images through the Major Incident Police Portal.

Many locals joined in on the search to find Abi and the force's social media appeal was shared for more than 2,000 times.

Detective Chief Superintendent Mark Swift, of West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team said: "On behalf of the police and Abi's family, I would like to express our thanks to everyone who has assisted in the search.

"We know that there has been a real community effort to find her and that this update will be upsetting for many.

"The body has not yet been formally identified and we will update in due course when this has been confirmed.

"We are carrying out extensive enquiries.

"As part of that, we are appealing to the public to help us by providing any information that could help our investigation.

"We are particularly keen to hear from anyone with dashcam footage from Southmoor Road on Saturday morning and have set up a specific portal for footage to be submitted to."

Who is Abi Fisher's husband Matthew Fisher?

Abi was married to Matthew Fisher, 29, since 2017.

The couple had a baby daughter six months ago through IVF procedures.

On July 12, 2022, it was reported that Fisher was arrested with the murder of his wife.

A spokesperson from the force said: "Matthew Fisher, of Walton Park Street, Castleford, has been charged with murder.

"He has been remanded in custody to appear at Leeds Magistrates' court on Wednesday morning."
