Why Anthony Bourdain’s feelings for Asia Argento ‘had friends worried’
Anthony Bourdain was so in love with girlfriend Asia Argento before his shock suicide that friends were worried, a new report claims.
The tragic TV chef – who took his own life on June 8 after a much-publicised battle with depression – was apparently so besotted with the Hollywood actress that friends were concerned.
“Like a teenage boy just absolutely lovestruck. He would have done anything for her, and that was a little red flag for some of his friends," a source told People of the Kitchen Confidential author, who split from wife Ottavia Busia in 2016.
The friend continued, "He was crazy in love with her, crazy being the keyword. That being said, none in our circle of friends knew he was struggling in any life-or-death way."
Anthony, 61, was found dead in his hotel room in France by friend and fellow chef Eric Ripert, who realised something was wrong when he didn’t show up for dinner.
And the insider said that even Eric didn’t realise the ‘depths of his pain.’
“The shock of Tony’s death is almost as profound as the pain. Even his closest friends are still waiting for some mystery to be uncovered. We knew his nerves were shattered a little; his marriage had fallen apart, he was way, way overworked and overdriven, but unstable… No one had a clue," the source added.
Last week Asia paid tribute to her ‘rock’, admitting she was ‘beyond devastated’ by her loss.
"Anthony gave all of himself on everything he did. His brilliant fearless spirit touched and inspired so many and his generosity knew no bounds," she tweeted.
The actress met Anthony when she guest starred on his show Parts Unknown in 2016, and they began dating the year after.
However, his divorce from Ottavia – who he has daughter Airane, 11, with – wasn’t finalised before his death, meaning she is still legally his next of kin.
