Dwayne Johnson makes Hollywood history in moving act of generosity
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson discusses going into politics
Dwayne Johnson made Hollywood history with the “largest single donation” to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Emergency Financial Assistance Program which is helping to keep the striking actors on the picket lines afloat as their dwindling income stops entirely.
SAG-AFTRA leadership has praised the Jumanji star for his incredible generosity, adding that “he’s very humble about this” in a conversation with Variety.
Although the exact amount the A-lister donated is being kept confidential, it is fair to assume the seven-figure number is extravagant as the 51-year-old has a staggering reported net worth of $800million.
SAG-AFTRA Foundation executive director Cyd Wilson revealed: “That one check is going to help thousands of actors keep food on their table, and keep their kids safe, and keep their cars running.”
SAG-AFTRA Foundation president Courtney Vance took a moment to thank his fellow actor for the record donation, praising his “tremendous generosity, compassion, and initiative to step up in this significant and meaningful way for our community”.

He touchingly added: “On behalf of the thousands who will be helped by his historic donation, thank you, thank you, thank you.”
As the actors’ strike wears on, 160,000 members of the SAG-AFTRA union are foregoing their usual work and income as they take to the picket line, striking for better wages, residuals and regulations around AI.
Following the decision to strike on July 13, Courtney and Cyd drafted a letter to the 2,700 highest-earning actors in the union highlighting the dire financial straits many would face amid the strike.
One of these was Dwayne Johnson, whose team got in contact with the foundation shortly after revealing his intention to help.

Courtney declared the moment “a love fest” as he gushed over the A-lister’s speedy response to their call for help: “This is him saying, ‘In such a time as this, I’m here and I’m not going anywhere, whatever you need me to do’.”
While Courtney noted that it is daunting to try and support their 160,000 members he declared the former WWE star’s donation is the “kickstart we needed”.
Courtney explained that the current fund set up to help these striking actors is very similar to the support the union offered during Covid when many productions were shut down almost overnight.
During the lockdowns, the foundation, which is associated with the union but not actually part of it, provided financial relief to its members through the same Emergency Financial Assistance Program.
The foundation grants can deliver up to $1,500 per member, although if the member is in extreme conditions that could put them in serious jeopardy lifetime members can receive up to $6,000.
