Emmerdale star hints at twist with newcomer as they hint they’re ‘too good to be true’

Newcomer Lewis Cope has hinted that his Emmerdale character may be “too good to be true”, as he teased fans about a possible hidden identity.

Writer Jane Hudson has been similarly secretive about his upcoming debut as Nicky, the new nanny at Home Farm, and has refused to rule out any future storylines relating to the character.

Having previously starred in crime drama Vera, Lewis will join the soap as Gabby Thomas and Dawn Taylor interview nanny candidates to care for their children whilst they work.

Though other characters are sceptical about Nicky, Gabby seems to be instantly taken with the newcomer and she offers him the job almost immediately.

However Dawn is not as convinced and is hesitant to let him care for her young children, Clemmie and Lucas. Upon seeing him with the kids, she begins to feel at ease and agrees to let him remain in the role.

But could she end up regretting this decision?

Lewis certainly indicated she should as he spoke to the press about his recent casting and revealed that viewers should be wry of his character Nicky.

He said: "At the moment he's a lovely person and there's nothing to say [otherwise]…. he kind of fits the bill. He is almost too good to be true though, but we'll have to wait and see."

The actor has been getting tips from former Coronation Street actress Wendi Peters, who starred alongside Lewis in a stage adaptation of Sleepy Hollow last year.

It seems Emmerdale fans may also be in for a fright as Lewis continued to tease them about upcoming plots.

When asked about his character’s links to others in the ITV soap, Lewis said that fans would have to wait for more revelations.

He quipped: "Nothing has come through yet… but it's a soap."

Likewise, showrunner Jane Hudson also alluded to Nicky having an ulterior motive when he applied to be a nanny.

She told The Mirror: "I think this is the first time Home Farm has had a nanny. He's a very good looking nanny who catches the eye of Gabby the minute he walks in.”

It’s unsurprising given that Lewis is a keen boxer and was personally selected by David Beckham to appear in a campaign for the footballer’s new scent Bold Instinct.

Speaking about a possible romance between Nicky and Gabby Thomas, writer Jane did confirm that the pair would have an affair but refused give any more details.

Instead, she said: "There's lots of fun in store for Nicky and Gabby as we watch their fledgling romance and like any good story, there will be a few reveals along the way."
