Gemma Owen and Luca’s public split is ‘horrible’ says former Love Island star

Former Love Island star Shaughna Phillips has branded Gemma Owen and Luca Bish’s split “horrible”.

Opening up about the pair, who announced they had called time on their three-month romance last night, Shaughna said it’s hard to go through a break-up in public.

The 28 year old, who is expecting her first child with her boyfriend Billy, exclusively told OK!: “Obviously every split is horrible – especially one in the public eye.

"I just wish them both the best in the future."

Shaughna was coupled up with Callum Jones on the winter series of Love Island, but the former scaffolder dumped her for Casa Amor contestant Molly Smith.

Gemma and Luca, who finished in second place on the ITV2 dating show in the summer, announced their split on Instagram with two separate statements.

Gemma, 19 wrote: "To all my followers, I wanted to let you know that Luca and I are no longer in a relationship. It wasn't an easy decision but ultimately this is what is best for us both right now."

She continued: "Many of you have been on this journey with us from the beginning, and I wanted to thank you for your continued support as we start our new chapters."

A few hours later Luca, 23, took to his Instagram Stories to share: “Switched my phone back on after taking some time out to clear my head after an emotional afternoon to thousands of messages and news articles about my breakup.

“I would have liked some time to process this privately but as you all already now know sadly Gemma and I made the mutual decision earlier today to go our separate ways.

He continued: “We have been on such a journey together and have made some amazing memories which I will treasure.

"I can’t thank everyone enough for their support for us as a couple during and after Love Island.

“We will remain good friends and I wish nothing but the best for her.”

Fishmonger Luca pulled out all the stops to ask Gemma to be his girlfriend shortly after they left the villa, but recently there had been speculation that the couple’s relationship was on the rocks.

Their split comes just days after Luca confessed his relationship with the equestrian star, who is the daughter of former footballer Michael Owen, was “getting better and better”.

He told Metro.co.uk at the TV Choice Awards on Monday: “It’s going better and better and better, honestly, in the villa towards the end everyone could see, you’re just ready to get out, and that timing and when we got out was the best thing that happened to us. So yeah, loving life.”

The couple had also recently been on holiday with Gemma's family, including her famous dad.
