Inside Steve Jones' love life

Inside Steve Jones’ love life: Following THAT awkward interview with his ex Alex Jones – we look at the presenter’s star-studded dating history including trysts with Pamela Anderson

He caused a stir with his cringeworthy interview earlier this week, after he appeared on The One Show hosted by his ex-girlfriend Alex Jones.

TV presenter Steve Jones, 46, and his former long-term partner, also 46, had a bitter split after he stole a job interviewing Hollywood star Angelina Jolie, who is reportedly one of several big names who have asked for Steve’s number after working with him.

BBC viewers picked up on the awkward tension between Steve and Alex, as he quizzed her on how much of his new novel, Call Time, she had read so far.

The excruciating exchange came just months after Alex, 46, revealed the shocking reason behind their 2002 split after they had dated for three years.

The TV presenter told how Steve lied that Alex was unwell so he was able to steal an exclusive interview with Angelina for their Channel 4 show, Rise.

Oops: TV presenter Steve Jones, 46, and his former long-term partner, also 46, had a bitter split after he stole a job interviewing Hollywood star Angelina Jolie, who is reportedly one of several big names who have asked for Steve’s number after working with him

The betrayal unsurprisingly ended in Alex calling time on their romance, before they both moved on to other relationships.

Steve, who is now happily married to his wife Phylicia Jackson-Jones, has been linked to a string of household stars over the years.

The most memorable of these may be his dalliance with Hollywood icon Pamela Anderson, who he described as a: ‘Lovely girl, lovely girl.’

Like Angelina, Halle Berry, Natalie Imbruglia and Paris Hilton all also have reportedly handed over their numbers to him after being interviewed by Steve.

Kylie Minogue refused to be interviewed by him because she ‘just didn’t want to be tempted’, Kate Moss’s nickname for him is ‘Jump His Bones’.

So as his name is dragged back into the spotlight, we take a look at Steve’s VERY impressive little black book…

Alex Jones

TV presenters, Alex and Steve, dated from 1999-2002, and later reunited to present Let’s Dance For Comic Relief, remaining close friends for the show.

In 2003, Steve landed a presenting job on weekend show T4 after he interviewed Angelina on the red carpet, and revealed at the time he had split from Alex.

Alex has previously told the story, admitting she broke up with her partner over the betrayal, but has never before named Steve as the culprit.

Alex discussed what happened with Dish podcast hosts Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett on Monday as she detailed stories from her personal life .

Alex said she worked as an entertainment correspondent on Channel 4 show Rise when the opportunity to interview Angelina Jolie rose, until Steve stole the show.

‘Normally they would call in the morning and ask to come and do an interview or a junket’, Alex shared.

‘I was staying in his flat at the time when I was working in London and he picked up the landline and said ‘Al’s not here. She’s not feeling well, she’s had to go back to Cardiff’, I was in Topshop.’

Pamela Anderson

The former Playboy star appeared on T4 in October 2004 and was interviewed by Steve, as they got up close and personal on-camera.

However the duo also became very friendly off-camera too and according to Pamela they enjoyed a couple of ‘trysts’ after meeting.

In an interview with Star magazine after their dalliance, she said: ‘I didn’t really date him. We had a couple of trysts.

Later in 2008, Pamela revealed that she couldn’t resist Steve’s Welsh charm and even texted him every time she was back in the UK.

However she then discovered he was dating British TV presenter Fearne Cotton.

She said: ‘Oh, Steve has a new girlfriend? S***. I had no idea. S***. I wouldn’t have come back to London if I had known that,’ Anderson told The Mirror. ‘He just texted me last night. He didn’t say anything. Oh s***.’

She added: ‘I still love Steve. He’s great. He’s the best. I love his accent. He should’ve warned me about his girlfriend though!’

Angelina Jolie

While Angelina and Steve never actually dated, she did reportedly ask for his number after meeting him on the T4 interview.

Angelina and Steve met prior to her relationship with Brad Pitt, which ended in 2016.

When asked about her, Steve previously said: ‘[She’s] actually pretty normal really. Likes a laugh.’

Amy Nuttall

Steve and Amy apparently dated for a bit in early 2005.

However the actress revealed they had called time on their relationship after just four months, according to a report in the Mirror at the time.

She told pals at the Pantene party at Umbaba in London: ‘That ship has sailed.’

Fearne Cotton

Steve and Fearne, now 41, dated briefly for three months in 2008.

It was claimed at the time that the legendary lothario was unable to control his wandering eye, while Fearne decided that he wasn’t the man for her.

A source said at the time: ‘It was a whirlwind affair and initially extremely intense. Unfortunately, though, things fizzled out just as quickly.

‘Steve isn’t ready to settle down and commit to just one lady while Fearne had only recently come out of a long-term relationship when they met, and didn’t want to rush into anything serious either.

‘Neither party has any regrets, as it was great while it lasted. They had a lot of fun but if Fearne is going to be with someone there has got to be more to it than this.

‘Their romance crashed and burned. They are trying to stay friendly, but it’s not always easy.’

The former couple were spotted on a series of dates at a series of fancy London restaurants and nights out in the early days of their relationship, but sadly the spark soon fizzled.

Sarah Harding

In February 2012, it was revealed that the late Sarah Harding had rekindled her romance with Steve following a brief relationship with Stephen Dorff.

At the time, they were spotted was ‘all over’ each other at a Soho bar.

An onlooker says: ‘Steve looked pretty drunk but Sarah didn’t seem to mind. She was sitting on his knee and kissing him passionately. They had three friends on their table but it was obvious they felt uncomfortable.’

However their rekindled romance was short-lived as they soon moved on with other people.

Hayden Panettiere

Steve found himself in the unusual position of being dumped by his 2009 A-list love interest, Hayden Panettiere.

The Heroes star called off the fledgling romance because, it turned out, she’s just not that into him.

She told the Mirror at the time: ‘I’m single and mingling. Steve lives in London, the distance is a bit too much,’

‘Cannes was a great experience. I was on vacation and some friends were going so I decided to come along. It was fun.’

The pair enjoyed a whirlwind summer fling that first began in May over dinner at London’s Nobu Berkeley in Mayfair with a group of friends, including Elton John’s husband David Furnish.

Just days later, they fast-tracked matters with a romantic trip to France where they frolicked aboard a luxury boat during the Cannes Film Festival.

Steve was visibly delighted during the trip while the actress managed to play it cool, but she then hinted that she was not as taken by Steve as he may have expected.

‘I don’t know how to date,’ she admitted in a separate interview with Seventeen magazine.

‘I’m not good at learning that sometimes you don’t like someone in that way – and figuring out how to deal with that. Because I don’t want to hurt his feelings.’

Fashion editor Zana

A Daily Mail journalist’s friend of mine witnessed his chat-up technique on a plane to New York.

He moved from first class to sit on the floor in economy for six hours and bought endless drinks for a pretty blonde fashion editor called Zana.

He told lots of funny stories and then presented her with a banana with his number cut into it. They dated for six months.

Discussing the encounter in a 2009 interview, Steve said: ‘Oh god. I was horribly drunk. It wasn’t very subtle was it?

‘But for the record she texted me after a couple of days to say: ‘My banana has gone bad. I need another one.’ Definitely my type of girl.’

Phylicia Jackson-Jones

In 2022, Steve insisted he’s finally put his womanising ways in the past after marrying Phylicia Jackson-Jones, with the star describing their union as his ‘greatest achievement’.

He insisted he only has eyes for Phylicia today who he describes as his ‘absolute favourite person’.

He told the Mirror: ‘My good marriage, my healthy marriage – it’s my greatest achievement.

‘I love being with my wife. She’s my absolute favourite person.’

The couple met 11 years ago while Steve was working in America on The X Factor USA and Phylicia was a photographer.

Steve proposed in front of Phylicia’s family in Italy in September 2014 after she relocated from Los Angeles to the UK with him in 2013.

They wed in October 2014 in a low-key ceremony at the Mayfair Library in London and held a reception near Tower Bridge, just one month after he popped the question.

A source told the Daily Mirror at the time: ‘It might seem to have happened incredibly quickly to outsiders given that they only had a few weeks to plan the entire day but they couldn’t be happier.’
