Keke Palmer Defends Showing Off Postpartum Body After Boyfriend Outfit-Shamed Her

A few days after Darius Jackson publicly voiced his criticism over her choice of outfit, the ‘True Jackson, VP’ star stresses that her new body is not something to hide.

AceShowbizKeke Palmer has defended herself for showing off her postpartum body. A few days after Darius Jackson, the father of her child, publicly outfit-shamed her, the “Nope” actress offered her two cents on her choice of clothes that was deemed as “booty cheeks.”

The 29-year-old actress reacted to Darius’ public criticism during an interview with The Cut. In an article published on Monday, July 7, she argued, “It’s like, that’s not something to hide, that’s something to embrace. We’re going to lean into this new body.”

The “True Jackson, VP” star went on to elaborate, “That is the whole aura of what’s happening with me in this big boss era as I come into my 30s and I have my baby boy. I’m just continuing to spread my wings as a young woman.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Keke explained what changed after she gave birth. “After having my baby, I’ve just gotten so much more powerful,” she shared. “I’m just so strengthened in a crazy way. Strutting my stuff, enjoying. I’ll be honest, I think before I even had the baby, I was really actually quite self-conscious. In a way that you would expect, considering the kind of work that I do as a public figure.”

On the reason why, Keke revealed, “Always trying to be on point with my body and always trying to make sure I’m taking care of this and that. There’s a lot of physical attention. Being slim and being fit in a particular way was always something that I was gumming for. After having the baby, my body got so much bigger and I started getting fluff in areas I never had before.”

Keke’s statement came a few days after Darius tweeted, “It’s the outfit tho.. you a mom.” He was replying to a video portraying Keke interacting with Usher on stage during his residency show in Las Vegas. At that time, Keke was wearing a black thong bodysuit under a black see-through dress.

Shortly after tweeting his comment, Darius received backlash from Twitter users. He later justified his remarks by writing in another tweet, “We live in a generation where a man of the family doesn’t want the wife & mother to his kids to showcase booty cheeks to please others & he gets told how much of a hater he is. This is my family & my representation. I have standards & morals to what I believe. I rest my case.”
