Matthew McConaugheyand his wife, Camila Alves, have let their son Levi join the world of social media as a birthday present – and he looks just like his dad.

Announcing the news on Instagram with a video, the parents explained that Camila had been “nervous” and also addressed their son.

In the clip, Matthew seems wistful saying: "Happy birthday Levi Alves McConaughey. Fifteen years young."

The pair had apparently pondered giving their son an Instagram account for a few days before making their final decision.

"Hey, buddy, your mom is a little nervous today about one of the gifts we are giving you, yes, we are allowing you today … to join the social media universe."

Camila explained: "All his friends have had it for a long time. We've been holding up,” before her husband commented: "He knows who he is, and he knows where he’s going. I think he can handle it. He’s got a great story to tell and share.”

Matthew continued: “I wanna let all y'all know, you're getting a very cool and respectful young man in Levi coming at ya and I hope y'all can do your best to treat him the same way."

Talking to Levi, the 53 year old said: "Enjoy the adventure, […] sharing your story, expressing yourself and what you put out there and the exchange you get with people out there."

His wife, 41, closed the video off by wishing her son a happy birthday and telling followers to “go check him out.’

For the audio, the 15 year old used a voiceover from his dad’s role as David Wooderson in Dazed and Confused.

It says: “Let me tell you this, the older you do get the more rules they're gonna try to get you to follow. You just gotta keep livin' man, L-I-V-I-N."
