Today, Kym Marsh, 46, took a break from her Strictly Come Dancing rehearsals to see her dad David in hospital amid his continuous fight against incurable prostate cancer. Kym’s dad, who was diagnosed with the disease in March 2021, rang the ‘end of treatment’ bell as he prepares for a new course of action to keep his cancer at bay for as long as possible.

The presenter told fans that her dad, 77, is being treated by “amazing doctors and nurses at his local cancer centre to keep the horrible disease away for as long as possible”.

Kym went on to explain that he wanted to ring the bell for his new journey of hope and for him to say, ‘I’m fighting back’.

She wrote: “It was a truly emotional moment and he wanted me to share this video with you all to encourage anyone living with cancer, or the families and friends around them, to stand up and fight, never lose hope and make those little moments mean the most.

“This day meant the world to dad and it will be a day we never forget. Love you @daveyboy113 my hero.”

In the clip, Kym filmed her dad reading a message before he rang the bell and was clapped by multiple nurses.

Many of the presenter’s 521,000 followers flocked to her post to share their thoughts.

Her dance partner Graziano commented with a series of smiling face with heart eye emojis.

Fleur East wrote: “Love your Dad! What an amazing man!”

Nickichappers added: “Please give him & your lovely mum my love. What a man!!!!”

Kym revealed it was her dad’s illness that inspired her to sign up to Strictly.

She said: “Since he was diagnosed last March I’ve just decided to grab everything while I can.

“Without being melancholy, we don’t know how long we’ve got him for, so you’ve got to make the best of these situations.”

Kym added: “My dad’s diagnosis does change things.

David is most likely to be proud of his daughter’s efforts on the show so far, particularly after last weekend.

Kym and Graziano were close to topping the leaderboard after scoring 33 out of 40 points for their Charleston routine.

Anton Du Beke told the dancing duo it was the “best dance of the series” so far and that he “loved every second of it”.

Craig Revel Horwood had slightly less positive words, telling Kym she needed to provide more energy for the style of dance.

Motsi Mabuse added that Kym was a “shining star” as she also praised their performance.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One on Saturday at 6.30pm.
