Strictly Come Dancing reveals Ellie Taylor as newest celeb to join 2022 line-up

Ellie Taylor has been announced as the ninth celebrity to be joining the Strictly Come Dancing 2022 line-up.

The news was shared on this morning's Lorraine, Tuesday 9 August, where Ellie chatted to Ranvir Singh.

Speaking ahead of their debut next month, Ellie admitted that her mum started crying when she told her the exciting news.

She also shared that she's not the best dancer, but one of the routines she'd love to perform is the jive.

While Ellie isn't the most confidence dancer, the 38 year old said she's "over the moon" to be taking part in the show.

"Well, cover me in fake tan and roll me in sequins! I'm absolutely over the moon to be a part of Strictly 2022!" she told BBC.

"I've watched the show for years so to be able to take to the dance floor is a dream come true, for both me and mum who is a Strictly super fan! At the moment I'm focusing on the excitement and glitter and choosing to ignore the fact that I have the dancing ability of a newly born giraffe. Bring it on!"

Ellie kickstarted her career on ITV’s Show Me The Funny as a stand-up comedian, and has gone on to write and perform five comedy shows – one of which is streamed on Netflix.

The mum-of-three has also made a name herself in the US after joining the cast of Apple TV's Ted Lasso.

Ellie joins 1980s pop icon Matt Goss in joining the line-up as the singer, 53, was announced to be taking part in Strictly on Monday 8 August.

Sharing the news on This Morning, Matt, who was dressed in a lime green suit and wide-brimmed hat, was announced in dramatic fashion on the show as he came out from behind a screen as confetti rained down over his head.

Matt told hosts Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle: “I’m excited, I’m nervous. You have the conversation and then you go about your day and you think, ‘I’ve got to dance.’ I’m eating everything that’s favourable to Spandex. I’ve got to make sure it’s alright, I’m excited.”

He added, “I’ve been almost reclusive. I come in [to the country], I work and go back to America. I just thought, ‘You know what, it’s time for me to come home, just do something completely out of my comfort zone' … I’m quite shy off stage. I just have to face all those demons and just learn.”

Soap star Will Mellor was the first celebrity to be revealed to be putting their dancing shoes on.

Sharing his joy over being cast for the star-studded show, which is said to be returning in September, the Hollyoaks star, 46, said: "I'm honestly so chuffed to be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing this year!

"Not going to lie, it's totally out of my comfort zone and I know it will be a huge challenge but that's what life is all about."
