How teacher, 25, lost nearly 50kg to fit into her ‘dream dress’ by ditching fad diets and following a simple meal plan

  • Young teacher Laura Murray, from NSW, went from 121kg to 71kg in 1.5 years
  • She did it by ditching large portions and takeaways for Lite n’Easy meal plan
  • Laura said she has brought her cholesterol and Type 1 Diabetes under control
  • She’s the happiest she’s been and said the key to weight loss is portion control

A young teacher has revealed how she lost nearly 50 kilograms in order to fit into her ‘dream dress’ by ditching fad diets and the meal replacement shakes she ‘lived off’ in her teenage years.

Laura Murray, 25, from Newcastle in New South Wales, tipped the scales at 121.8 kilograms a year and a half ago when she knew something had to change.

She said she would move between binge eating ‘huge portions of food’ and then ‘living off a liquid diet of weight loss shakes’ which meant that she was always tired and hungry.

After starting a Lite n’Easy meal plan at the beginning of 2021, Laura has since lost nearly 50kg. She now weighs 71kg.

‘I went from a size 22-24 in clothing to a size 14 and when I graduated last year I was finally able to wear my dream dress,’ Laura told FEMAIL.

‘But it’s not just my weight. My cholesterol has dropped dramatically and my Type 1 diabetes is the most under control it has ever been.

‘I have steady blood sugar levels, my body has a much better response to insulin and I have so much less fat.’

BEFORE AND AFTER: Laura said one of the biggest things she has learned about weight loss is the importance of portion control, as what she was eating beforehand was ‘far too much’

Before she began the Lite n’Easy meal plan, Laura recalled her diet left a lot to be desired.

‘I ate so much takeaway and my portion sizes were huge,’ she said.

‘Even if I was just eating a bowl of spaghetti, the portion size would be huge.’

When she felt guilty about overeating, Laura said she would embark on a liquid diet, which also gave her no positive results.

‘I felt light-headed and found it impossible to concentrate,’ she said.

‘I also felt really hungry all the time and only ever lost three kilos.’

BEFORE AND AFTER: After losing nearly 50kg, Laura said she was finally able to fit into her dream dress

Laura embarked on her Lite n’Easy plan in February 2021, replacing her giant portions with calorie-controlled options like high protein chipotle chicken burritos, healthy spaghetti bolognese, honey soy chicken and healthy butter chicken.

‘I also exercise now, running up to 10 kilometres each day and doing sit ups and pulls ups at the outdoor gym at the park with my fiance,’ Laura said.

‘My job is reasonably active, running around looking after kids, so I get some passive exercise there.’

When it comes to her tips for others looking to lose weight, Laura said the most important thing to think about is portion control.

‘I never knew what the size of portion was that I should eat,’ she said.

‘I figured mine out through Lite n’Easy, and if I compare the Lite n’Easy meal to what I was eating before, it’s crazy.’

Laura recently got engaged to her long-term partner, who also works in early childhood teaching.

‘There is not long now until I reach my end goal when it comes to weight,’ Laura said.

‘I feel the happiest I’ve felt in years, I can’t stop smiling.’
