McDonald’s is ending its special 20 per cent discount for emergency services staff such NHS workers.

The global fast-food chain began the offer in July 2021 as a thank you for anyone working in the fire, police, NHS, armed fores and social care sector with a 20 per cent discount to use when they bought food through the app.

The offer is due to end at the end of this month, the 31 March, meaning that critical workers only have 25 days remaining to snap up reduced food.

But there is a restriction on how often you can use the deal. The limit is set at once a week and the deal refreshes every Monday.

To make the most of the deal, you would have to sign up to the app this week to be able to use the discount four times before it ends.

The offer is due to end at the end of this month, the 31 March, meaning that emergency services staff only have 25 days remaining to snap up reduced McDonald’s

Steve Bater, spokesman at NHS Money Saving blog NHS Discount Offers, said: ‘We’ve had a good run with this deal but its a real shame that the McDonalds discount is set to end on March 31 so time is really ticking for NHS staff to get their 20% off their favourite meals.

‘The McDonalds 20% discount has been one of the most popular food discounts for NHS staff to take advantage of in the last year or so and its been a great way for NHS staff to save on their McDonalds takeaways.

‘The cost of living crisis continues and every little helps as we look to save money wherever we can.

‘It’s really appreciated that McDonalds have been helping NHS staff save. Its been a really kind gesture from the fast food giant and we appreciate them continuing to run the discount for staff until the end of this month.’

Staff can make the most of the discount by signing up to the McDonald’s app with their work email address, then they will have to wait around two days for the offer to pop up in the deals section of the app.

It comes after McDonald’s customers reported getting caught out by little-known parking rule costing them up to £100 in fines.

Customers at the branch in Newmarket Road, Cambridge, claim they were landed with several penalty notices after surpassing the 90 minute parking allocation slot.

Shapour Meftah was one unlucky customer who had a particularly expensive dining experience when meeting his brother for a McDonald’s after work.

He parked his car at the restaurant and received two penalty notices through his letterbox from a private parking company, UK Parking Control, several days later.

The fixed notices issued by the company came to £100 for two visits to the restaurant on the evening of January 4 and 6.

The company claimed Mr Meftah had surpassed the 90 minute allocation for McDonald’s customers at the car park.

‘It was parking from hell – the most expensive McDonald’s I’ve ever had,’ said Mr Meftah.

A spokesperson for McDonald’s told MailOnline: ‘We have parking restrictions in place at a number of our restaurants, with a time limit to ensure there is adequate parking for all of our customers.

‘Ample signage regarding these restrictions is clearly displayed both as you drive into the car park and on various lampposts within it.

‘If a customer believes they have been issued a ticket incorrectly, they should appeal it as per the parking control company guidelines.’
