The most explosive Married At First Sight UK moments

The most explosive MAFS UK moments: As the series returns, a look back at the highs and lows – from a woman kicked off the show for an expletive-ridden rant to a couple who cheated at a party

  • Married At First Sight UK returned to the nation’s TV screens yesterday evening
  • Sixteen singletons are searching for love on the popular Channel 4 programme
  • But it’s more likely they’ll be left with cheating scandals, arguments and divorces

Married At First Sight UK returned to the nation’s TV screens last night – with 16 singletons all searching for love on the Channel 4 programme.

But while many contestants hope for romance, it’s more likely they’ll experience shouting matches, cheatings scandals and divorces, if past seasons are anything to go by.

In 2015, groom Jason was caught out by his bride Kate after a friend told her that he was still on Tinder, while in 2018, Steph was served annulment papers in an envelope for Christmas by her husband Jonathan.

And in last year’s series, Nikita was booted off the show following a foulmouthed rant at her co-stars, while contestant Megan cheated on her husband Bob with fellow participant Jordon.

Here, FEMAIL reveals the most explosive moments from MAFS UK…

NIKITA IS KICKED OFF THE SHOW

In last year’s run, Nikita was kicked off the show following a foulmouthed outburst at her fellow cast members, accusing them of only signing up for fame

The Geordie, then 26, had to be dragged away from the programme’s first dinner party by security in the midst of her expletive ridden rant, according to a TV source

In last year’s run, Nikita was kicked off the show following a foulmouthed outburst at her fellow cast members, accusing them of only signing up for fame.

The Geordie, then 26, had to be dragged away from the programme’s first dinner party by security in the midst of her expletive ridden rant, according to a TV source.

Bosses later reportedly told the newlywed she would have to leave the series for breaking E4’s code of conduct, abruptly ending husband Ant Poole’s stint on the dating programme (before he later reappeared with Alexis).

A TV source told MailOnline: ‘Nikita just lost it and screamed at everyone around the table.

‘It was over an argument she started, ranting her co-stars were only doing the show for fame – when most of them felt that’s exactly why she had signed up. The situation turned really ugly, which was why security had to get involved.

‘Bosses were left with no choice but to remove her from the show.’

A spokesperson for E4 told MailOnline: ‘The wellbeing of cast and crew is our utmost priority at all times throughout production and beyond.

‘During filming, a situation escalated off camera and Nikita displayed a level of aggression that was unacceptable and breached our agreed code of conduct on behaviour.

‘As a result, she was asked to leave the experiment. All involved have been offered support and Nikita has since apologised and resolved the situation with those involved.’

MEGAN CHEATS ON BOB

In the 2021 series, Jordon (pictured left) and Megan confessed they kissed at the first dinner party, leaving their new spouses devastated

While Jordon, then 28, from Cardiff, was paired with model Alexis by the experts, Megan (pictured), then 26, married fun-loving Bob, but neither felt the spark with their partners

Instead, the couple admitted they had actually shared a kiss at an event they attended with their spouses, leaving Bob (pictured) and Alexis devastated

In the 2021 series, Jordon and Megan confessed they kissed at the first dinner party, leaving their new spouses devastated.

While Jordon, then 28, from Cardiff, was paired with model Alexis by the experts, Megan, then 26, married fun-loving Bob, but neither felt the spark with their partners.

Instead, the couple admitted they had actually shared a kiss at an event they attended with their spouses, leaving Bob and Alexis devastated.

Jordon confessed: ‘Last night at the dinner party, we found ourselves alone at one point and we shared a kiss. It’s a real tense situation to be in. It’s thrown a spanner in the works and my head is all over the place.’

He added: ‘I came here to meet someone, if I step on a few toes then so be it. The test now is to speak to her and see where her head is at.’

Jordon approached Megan about chatting the situation over, with both revealing they ‘didn’t regret’ the kiss. Megan told him: ‘It was definitely a good kiss wasn’t it?’

At the same time, both Megan’s husband Bob and Jordon’s wife Alexis said they hoped to continue trying to make their marriages work.

Megan said: ‘It was Alexis who first said, you too are really similar. It’s weird because it doesn’t feel like I’ve cheated on someone. But I know for a lot of people that is exactly what this is.’

Jordon and Alexis decided to leave the process following the confession, but Megan chose to stay with Bob. The pair are no longer together.

MORAG SLAMS JOSHUA FOR SAYING HE DIDN’T REMEMBER SLIDING INTO HER DMS

Last year, the final dinner party descended into a chaotic screaming match as Morag (pictured) slammed Joshua for saying he didn’t remember sliding into her DMs

The drama reached a boiling point when Morag brought up that Joshua (pictured right) had previously contacted her and liked multiple Instagram photos a year ago

Despite Morag’s friend and Joshua’s wife Amy (pictured) saying she ‘didn’t care’ about the previous contact, the argument blew up with many of the contestants storming off

Last year, the final dinner party descended into a chaotic screaming match as Morag slammed Joshua for saying he didn’t remember sliding into her DMs.

The drama reached a boiling point when Morag brought up that Joshua had previously contacted her and liked multiple Instagram photos a year ago.

Despite Morag’s friend and Joshua’s wife Amy saying she ‘didn’t care’ about the previous contact, the argument blew up with many of the contestants storming off.

Fellow contestants said they ‘didn’t believe’ he DMed her with Ant branding her an ‘attention seeker’ just looking for drama.

Joshua asked when she realised this, saying he had no recollection of ever speaking to her.

‘You don’t remember me at all?’ she asked. ‘Someone called Morag who you DMed, like a load of photos, you don’t remember’.

‘I swear on my life I don’t,’ he said.

‘Are you f****** for real? Are you f****** serious? You don’t think it’s real you sent me a friend request and liked my phots,’ she asked.

‘Coming from my heart, I genuinely don’t think it’s real,’ he replied. ‘I’ve been accused of DMing you, why are you bringing it up?’ he went on, before Morag screamed at him she ‘didn’t bring it up’.

Morag went on to berate Joshua saying he was ‘still a f*** boy’ before her husband Luke interrupted to ask ‘Why is this an issue, it was years ago?’

This caused the table to further descend into chaos with Joshua’s wife Amy screaming: ‘You could have just kept your mouth shut but you f****** brought it up Morag,’ before storming out.

Morag then stormed out in tears with Ant also leaving in frustration, while Luke said he felt ‘mugged off’ by his wife’s comments.

MORAG CLAIMS HUSBAND LUKE GHOSTER HER AFTER THE SERIES

Morag (pictured centre) revealed in last year’s reunion episode how husband Luke ghosted her after the couple renewed their vows

Veterinary nurse Morag, from Essex, wed Luke at the start of the E4 series and the two had a bumpy relationship, with Morag openly telling him he needed to ‘be more manly’ and the ‘sexual connection’ just wasn’t there between them

Morag revealed in last year’s reunion episode how husband Luke ghosted her after the couple renewed their vows.

Veterinary nurse Morag, from Essex, wed Luke at the start of the E4 series and the two had a bumpy relationship, with Morag openly telling him he needed to ‘be more manly’ and the ‘sexual connection’ just wasn’t there between them.

However in the final episode of the series, they decided to stay married to one another, despite Morag telling Luke she hadn’t wanted a ‘project.’

Appearing on the reunion show, she shocked her co-stars by arriving alone and revealed: ‘The long and short of it was, the moment I left the experiment till now, Luke has never phoned me once.’

Fellow contestant Megan repeated: ‘Luke never phoned you?’ Amy added: ‘I can’t believe that because he came across as the one who made all the effort.’

Morag said: ‘No that’s not the case at all.’

Meanwhile watching backstage, expert Mel Schilling explained: ‘To completely cut off all communications and ghost her…is disrespectful.’

Luke and Morag then sat down for a chat with the experts, with the former fuming that his ex wife ‘played’ him during the experiment and she branded him a ‘fake’.

Morag said: ‘I felt like we ended on a high, I genuinely felt like we were in the best place we could have been in at the time.

‘Obviously, there were highs and lows, the position we were in, I felt like I owed it to us to give it a go. However, from the moment we left the experiment, Luke hasn’t phoned me once…’

Yet Luke was quick to clarify that he was asked to give Morag ‘space’ and although he didn’t ring her, he did message her.

He said: ‘We spoke on one day and you basically turned around, and you categorically told me you had never seen us in a relationship.

‘It was like, what? What have I been fighting for? What have I been fighting for? I said: “What does the final commitment ceremony mean to you?” and she was like: “It was a TV show.”‘

He continued: ‘I think I was played the whole time,’ but Morag replied: ‘Are you f****** serious? If you’re going to make such a big statement, tell me the facts.’

Luke said: ‘I wasn’t the guy you wanted, it was just a game for you the whole time’, with Morag quick to insist: ‘I was honest with you from start to finish.’

GROOM SPOTTED ON TINDER BY BRIDE’S FRIEND

Jason and Kate wed as complete strangers for Channel 4 series Married at First Sight in 2015

The couple – who met for the first time at the altar – share a quick kiss in a hot tub after the ceremony

Jason and Kate wed as complete strangers for Channel 4 series Married at First Sight in 2015.

However, in the final episode, it was revealed they had split after about three weeks after the groom signed up to online dating service Tinder.

The couple were put together by programme makers after being subjected to a barrage of personality tests that were meant to find matches most likely to result in lasting marriages.

However, their anti-social working hours meant they rarely saw each other and when they booked an appointment with Jo Coker, the programme’s relationship therapist, to work through their problems, Jason failed to turn up.

Then, when a friend of Kate’s showed her that her new husband was registered on the Tinder dating app, it spurred her to call off the relationship.

Jason previously told the Mail he only signed up to the dating service once he knew the relationship would not work.

He said he was caught out when his bride’s friend noticed his picture on Tinder.

‘It was probably more from my side than hers that it didn’t work,’ he said. ‘It’s not that I didn’t want to give it a go but I just definitely wasn’t feeling the feelings you should feel at the start of the relationship. I made a decision after the honeymoon to end things.

‘One of my good friends said: “Jason, are you back in the dating scene?” I said it was a bit too soon but he suggested I should re-download Tinder.

‘I handed my phone over to his girlfriend who was happily swiping left and right and having a laugh about it. Anyway, the next morning I woke up and packed my bags because I already knew I was going to leave.

‘We sat in the lounge but Kate wouldn’t let me talk. She had a rant at me. At the end of the conversation she said: “By the way, you swiped right on one of my friends and I’m leaving” at which point she saw my bag at the door and said, “Apparently you are too”.’

JONATHAN SERVES STEPH ANNULMENT PAPERS IN AN ENVELOPE FOR CHRISTMAS

Steph and Jonathan’s relationship and breakup were documented in the fourth series of Married At First Sight, which was broadcast in early 2019

Jonathan instigated the breakup, as he handed Steph annulment papers in an envelope for Christmas in 2018

On camera, he later admitted that he regretted doing this – however, Steph was ready to move on by that point, and after consulting with the show’s relationship expert, the two agreed to begin divorce proceedings

Steph and Jonathan’s relationship and breakup were documented in the fourth series of Married At First Sight, which was broadcast in early 2019.

Jonathan instigated the breakup, as he handed Steph annulment papers in an envelope for Christmas in 2018.

On camera, he later admitted that he regretted doing this – however, Steph was ready to move on by that point, and after consulting with the show’s relationship expert, the two agreed to begin divorce proceedings.

An insider has claimed that after filming had wrapped up, Jonathan had a change of heart, and has ‘clung on’ to the relationship.

The couple are reportedly still married despite splitting two years ago, with sources telling The Sun that Jonathan, 41, is ‘refusing to let go’ of their marriage and is said to be blocking a divorce, despite the fact that he and Steph, 30, are no longer a couple.

An insider told the publication: ‘It’s a nightmare for Steph, who just wants to move on. Jonathan is refusing to sign divorce papers so they’re still legally married.’

They added: ‘Steph and Jonathan were never really a couple – it was pretty obvious there was no connection between them from the second they got married, but they tried to give it a go and get on.

‘But at the end of the day, they had nothing in common and nobody knows why the experts matched them. Steph thought he was a nice bloke, but there was nothing there romantically.’

An insider said: ‘Steph had to ask the production company to ask Jonathan to stop sending her these “creepy” cards – he’d always contact her on her birthday and Christmas, and she just wants to forget about the whole thing and move on.’

The source alleged that Steph believes she got ‘an unfair edit’ on the series, and is now ‘stuck in a marriage she regrets’.

ADAM AND CAROLINE’S BREAKFAST ROW

During their honeymoon, Caroline filmed a video diary entry in which she called her new husband Adam ‘an idiot’ because he had forgotten to order breakfast to their room

Despite appearing to be one of the strongest couples on their 2015 series of Married at First Sight UK, Adam and Caroline eventually went their separate ways.

Looking back, cracks began to show in their relationship as early as the honeymoon – particularly when they had a disagreement over room service.

The row unfolded after Adam forgot to order breakfast for the pair the night before and their meal ended up arriving 40 minutes late.

Despite correcting his error, Caroline laid into her new husband in her video diary.

Branding him a ‘total idiot’, she berated him for his forgetfulness and said: ‘I gave him one job’.

She then turned the camera on a sheepish-looking Adam who apologised for his mistake.

Caroline said: ‘This is the face of the muppet who can’t do the one job that I gave him.’

The pair eventually sat down to eat their delayed breakfast, during which Adam seemed undeterred by his new wife’s outburst.

WAYNE GETS COLD FEET

Wayne realised he was unable to go through with marrying a total stranger just hours before the ceremony

Marrying a total stranger isn’t for everyone – and sometimes people come to realise they’re not cut out for it quite late in the day.

After Wayne applied to be a contestant on the show and had already been matched with his bride Carrie, he had a change of heart.

Speaking to the celebrant hours before he was due to wed Carrie, Wayne explained he could not go through with it – leaving her in the lurch.

He said: ‘I have had to think long and hard about this but I really am sorry to say that I won’t be declaring my intention today.’

Although the celebrant tried to change his mind, Wayne stood firm with his decision and left the experiment before it had even begun.

Speaking to the camera after leaving he acknowledged his bride, who he never met, would have an abrupt end to her experience because of his decision.

But he added: ‘I couldn’t go through with it just for that.

‘I hope she appreciates that.’

DAVID’S SURVIVAL KIT

Shareen looked a little perplexed when her new husband David presented her with a honeymoon gift she wasn’t expecting

One of the more unusual conflicts on Married at First Sight UK came when David presented his new wife Shareen with a ‘survival kit’ on their honeymoon.

The purpose of the kit was to ensure the newlywed could be prepared for any situation – but it didn’t necessarily encourage romance.

Explaining the contents of the kit to his new wife, David said: ‘This is your CPR face shield so if you need to give the kiss of life and you’ve got blood or vomit…’

Listening to her new husband’s explanation, Shareen looked suitably unimpressed.

Later she said: ‘I don’t carry a handbag so this, I’m looking at this and I’m genuinely struggling to breathe.’

Although the disagreement only aired for a few minutes on the programme, it is thought the pair actually argued for several hours over the survival kit.

Shareen told the film crew: ‘I was just like “oh my gosh, what have I done” because this is not normally the mindsetof a man that I would continue choosing to date.’

Meet the Married At First Sight UK 2022 contestants: A Yugoslavian refugee, a member of Dreamboys and a former Miss Great Britain lead the line-up

Last season saw explosive arguments, affairs – and the show’s first ever gay marriage.

And now Married At First Sight UK is back – and this series promises to be more sexy, shocking and scandalous than ever before.

Ahead of the series seven launch, the 16 singletons who will be walking down the aisle have been revealed – with seven females and nine males making up the eight couples.

While the pairings are yet to be announced, the diverse line-up includes a digital designer, a Yugoslavian refugee, a member of the male dance company Dreamboys and more, who will be followed over 30 episodes on their quest for love.

The series will follow season six in following the Australian format, and rather than legal marriages, the couples will make a lifelong commitment to one another at a glamorous ceremony, overseen by a wedding celebrant, that includes guests, bridal gowns, dancing, speeches and cake.

Married At First Sight UK is back – and this series promises to be more sexy, shocking and scandalous than ever before

Experts Paul C Brunson, Charlene Douglas and Mel Schilling are back on the show to guide the couples through their Married at First Sight journey

After the ceremony and celebrations are over, true love is well and truly put to the test, as they embark on a luxurious honeymoon, before moving in with each other and their fellow couples.

Relationships will be put under the microscope, by fellow brides and grooms at weekly dinner parties – as well as by the experts, at recurring commitment ceremonies, where couples choose whether they want to stay in or leave the process.

All this and more will build to a dramatic series finale: glossy, high-stakes vow renewals, in which each couple must decide if they will recommit to their partner or go their separate ways, for good.

Across the process, the couples will be matched and guided by returning experts Melanie Schilling, Paul C. Brunson and Charlene Douglas.

In the 2021 series of MAFS UK, the expert panel had an impressive success rate with two couples still together and one of those couples with a baby on the way!

Adam and Taylah, who met and tied the knot on the E4 show last year, announced in April they were ecstatic to be having their first child.

Meanwhile the show’s first ever same-sex couple – Dan and Matt – are also still going strong, having tied-the-knot last year.

But will any of this year’s contestants follow in their footsteps to find true love on the programme? Here FEMAIL reveals the sexy singletons set to marry a total stranger…

Equally, Jess says if she has the hump with someone, then they will know about it. Her face often says it all! If she wants to do something, she will do it and does not necessarily think about the consequences, which has hindered her relationships in the past.

She has a habit of moving fast in relationships and tends to skip the ‘dating’ bit.

Kasia hasn’t worked a 9-5 since 2015 and loves the freedom it brings. Her appearance is very important to Kasia, she loves makeup and making the best of herself.

Despite being the boss at work, she’s after a man who can take the lead, but shares the same drive and passion that she does.

She said: ‘I’m successful in a lot of other areas in my life and I’ve been through a lot, but the one area that I’m not successful in is my love life. ‘

At 36, Londoner Kasia, had her first child aged 16 and says she felt the odds were stacked against her. But she is now a successful mother-of-two and businessman, looking for a man who can take her on

NAME: Lara

AGE: 49

HOMETOWN: Nottingham

OCCUPATION: Waitress

Canadian ex dancer Lara has lived an extraordinary life. She’s been married and divorced twice and has led a luxury lifestyle.

She once flew from Japan to New York for dinner and was used to spending vast sums on clothes. Her life is very different today though.

Lara’s relationship role models are her parents who have been married for 51 years and are one another’s best friend.

Lara says they are madly in love all these years later. Lara finds herself trying to force every relationship she has to be like theirs, often letting red flags slide to try and make the relationship work.

Although she’s been single for 12 years now, Lara still believes in fairy-tale romance and is forever looking for her prince, to introduce to her two sons.

She confessed: ‘The experts couldn’t pick any worse than I could pick.’

NAME: Whitney

 AGE: 31

HOMETOWN: St Albans

OCCUPATION: PA

Fun, confident and sexy, Whitney isn’t short of male attention, but in order for her to settle down and commit, a man has got to tick all of her boxes. This has never happened.

After losing her mother, Whitney has had a tough couple of years. Her mum was her best friend, and though she had a strict upbringing, she’s proud it made her the strong and independent woman she now is.

Although she has dated lots of men on a superficial level, she’s never found anyone good enough to bring home to her family.

She has such high expectations for her potential partner and worries she’ll never actually let anyone in.

Now her biggest fear is ending up 50 and single, alone with her dogs! Finally, she feels ready to give someone a chance, and thinks that putting the responsibility of finding her partner into the experts’ hands might be her only solution.

She said: ‘I need to get my s**t together and embrace the situation.’
