Adam Garcia shares Masked Dancer gossip and why he pulled out of first series

The Masked Dancer star Adam Garcia has revealed he originally turned down a spot on the first series of the wacky ITV show.

The Hollywood actor, 49, was unmasked as Onomatopoeia during Saturday's (October 22) series two finale.

Scissors, who was unveiled as Glee actress Heather Morris, was named the winner of the competition, with Adam coming in second place.

Taking about his Masked Dancer experience, Adam told Daily Star and other press: "I agreed to do the first series, which was during the pandemic, and then I actually got another job like two days later, which was filming the antithesis of The Masked Dancer, which is The Serpent Queen.

"I couldn’t do them consecutively or at the same time because we were locked down in France filming.

"So, it was one of those things where when they came back (to me) for the second series, I was like, 'Yes, yes, yes. I’m definitely going to do it'."

Adam impressed the nation with his moves but admits dancing in his Onomatopoeia costume was "difficult".

He said: "You never get to rehearse in the costume and you'd choreograph all these dances only to find out when you put the costume on that 50 per cent had to be completely changed because you're either clonking someone or knocking into bits or couldn't grip something.

"It was a sort of working progress and certainly made things difficult but in a way having the mask was quite liberating in the way you can really concentrate."

Adam, who is best known for appearing as Kevin O'Donnell in Coyote Ugly, also revealed that his children thought he was Pearly King, who turned out to be Strictly judge Bruno Tonioli.

"My kids were disappointed I wasn't Pearly King.

"I thought they'd be a lot more excited when I was revealed but they are only four and seven.

"Bruno, I have to say, his head was so big, like his mask and the way that he could present pure personality, with little or no effort or gesture, is testament to just how skilful he is as a performer.

"So I was actually quite happy."

Adam was initially "disappointed and annoyed" at not winning the show but now "understood the genuine competition" after watching back the show.

He explained: "I said to myself I could have done better and all those sort of ridiculous things that go through your head."

"I was stoked coming second to Heather. She is outrageously good., like she is a ridiculously good dancer."

"My eldest was happy Scissors won. She really liked Scissors."
