BBC blasted for ‘spoiling’ explosive Shetland twist after posting major spoilers with no warning | The Sun

SHETLAND fans blasted the BBC on Twitter when they shared a big spoiler about DS Alison ‘Tosh’ McIntosh’s potential death moments after Wednesday’s episode ended.

Tosh (played by Alison O’Donnell) was chasing down a lead in this week’s instalment of the BBC One detective show, but she found herself left in a life or death situation.

The Detective Sergeant was alone in the middle of nowhere checking out a suspect’s caravan and called fellow detective Jimmy Perez (Douglas Henshaw) to give up an update.

But while they were on the phone, Tosh noticed that the caravan had been rigged with explosives, but not before she tripped a wire, which started a 30 second countdown.

Tosh was last seen trying to open a window, but before viewers could see her escape, the episode cut to an aerial shot of the explosion, and her fate was left hanging in the balance.

The BBC Press Office account on Twitter shared the above photo of the huge explosion online just minutes after the episode ended, but with no spoiler alert for fans who hadn’t had a chance to see it yet.

Is it the end for Tosh?” the BBC teased. “Find out when #Shetland returns next Wednesday (31 August) at 9pm on @BBCOne, @BBCiPlayer and @BBCScotland…”

Shetland fans who hadn’t had the chance to watch the episode yet were furious at the BBC for posting the spoiler.

While another fumed: “Oh behave, glad I watched it on catch-up before seeing this. Delete this tweet, eh @bbcpress?”

“Jeez, I was just about to watch it. Do we really need spoilers JUST after TX???” another viewer raged.

A fourth complained: “Oh no. Just started watching it on iPlayer. Why no spoiler alert?!”

Tosh actress Alison previously teased her character could face danger in the new series during an interview with the BBC.

She explained: “This series is jam-packed with twists and high-octane drama. It’s not to be missed!

“Our guest cast is absolutely outstanding, as ever, and there are some big moments for the core cast too, with Perez’s ending and another series regular being thrown into serious jeopardy.”

If this is the end of Tosh, Shetland will lose two of its main characters in Season 7, with her co-star Douglas also set to make his exit from the show.

In the same interview, the actor said he always planned to leave the series, and his exit storyline has been in the works for years.

He shared: “I decided to leave a few years ago because I felt that his story was coming to a natural end – it was time to find a resolution to Perez’s private life.

“I never wanted to ruin the things that were unique to him and our series, so it felt like the right time to wrap up his story in a way that would be satisfactory to everybody.”

However, neither of the stars provided any clues about Tosh’s fate, so viewers will have to wait until next week to find out what happened to the fan-favourite character.

Shetland airs Wednesday on BBC One at 9pm.
