BBC Breakfast star admits to ‘getting annoyed’ as Jon Kay brands habit ‘bizarre’

BBC Breakfast presenter Tina Daheley admitted to getting "really annoyed" as her co-star Jon Kay branded her "bizarre".

The pair were discussing the newspaper headlines of the day from the red sofa when an article on flat-pack furniture came up, and they unexpectedly began butting heads over their DIY skills.

Tina began the discussion by explaining: "Flat-pack furniture that assembles itself! I kid you not – Israeli researchers say they have taken the first step to making that a reality.

"They have 3D printed wooden sheets that spring into different shapes when they dry out, after you've made them."

Jon labelled the research a "dream", as Tina continued: "I'm not entirely sure how that works, but yeah apparently it puts itself together. A chair sort of assembles itself."

Her co-presenter commented: "What?! Well, you get pop-up tents, but a pop-up bed or a wardrobe, I'm not quite so sure. No more allen keys!"

Tina agreed: "No more allen keys, and no more arguments." But an argument seemed exactly what was to come, as the pair couldn't resist comparing each other's flat-pack assembly prowess.

Jon admitted: "I've got hundreds and hundreds of allen keys. Are you good with an allen key? Are you practical?"

Tina confessed: "I'm all right! I like to think I am. I'm one of those people who has to read every single instruction, and it really annoys me when someone…"

Jon interjected: "You read instructions? Absolutely bizarre."

A frosty Tina told him: "While putting together furniture. That's how it works."

Thankfully it was all in good fun, as Jon giggled: "Not reading instructions might explain why I go berserk with frustration doing flat-pack furniture."

Elsewhere on the programme, weather presenter Carol Kirkwood was forced to quickly cover for herself after a technical blunder meant she was faced with an incorrect range of temperatures.

Carol was attempting to tell viewers what kind of weather they were waking up to, but the screen was showing Friday's weather forecast instead.

She began to say: "If you're just stepping out this morning, it's quite warm…" but quickly trailed off as she realised her mistake.

Explaining away the blunder, Carol said: "These are the correct temperatures this time!"

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
