BBC Breakfast’s Carol calls Naga Munchetty ‘awful’ as host fumes at name mix-up

BBC Breakfast weather reporter Carol Kirkwood was left embarrassed after she called presenter Naga Munchetty by the wrong name.

Carol was reading out her morning bulletin and told viewers about the weather for the day and week ahead.

As she came to the end of her report, she passed over to Naga and co-star Charlie Stayt in the studio – but made a fatal error.

The meteorologist called Munchetty "Nana" instead of her real name and Kirkwood was clearly embarrassed as she put her hand over her mouth in realisation.

She said: "Naga, sorry! We've got a producer called Nana!"

Naga quipped: "You say that every single time! I come and visit you, I have a cup of tea, I bring you a cup of tea, I come and have a nice chat – I've never met Nana! I think Nana is a phantom producer that you just make up so you can abuse me by mispronouncing my name."

Carol saw the funny side of Naga's joke and called out "the shame" she felt as Naga giggled to herself back in the studio.

The weather reporter went on to say that Nana is "very much alive and kicking" and "very lovely with it".

Naga clarified that she "has met Nana," who is "very nice" and that Carol is "very lucky" to have such a nice producer, "especially when Carol behaves so badly".

Kirkwood gave a huge chuckle and called Naga "awful," but that she does "like her".

A curious Charlie, who had stayed quiet until now, then asked Carol to "tell them more about Nana" and asked "how lovely she is" – but was quickly corrected to "he" by his co-stars.

Carol gushed: "He's very lovely. He's tall, he's handsome, he's young, he's very capable, I hope he's listening to this!"

Naga then joked that Carol had "give a bit more away than she had meant to" as the pair were left in stitches while Charlie tried to maintain order and move on with the show.
