Coronation Street star makes TV return after cancer battle

Victoria Ekanoye, former Coronation Street star

Coronation Street’s Victoria Ekanoye is continuing to raise awareness and speak about her experiences with cancer in her new TV project.

The actress, who starred as Angie Appleton in the ITV soap, was diagnosed with DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ) in October 2021.

DCIS sees the cells within the milk ducts turn cancerous and previously, Victoria explained the lump on her breast was so big, she didn’t have to look for it.

After a third opinion from the doctors, Victoria was eventually given an official diagnosis.

After being given the all-clear, it was revealed back in June that Victoria had been filming in Nigeria, South Africa, Morocco, Kenya, America and the UK for a documentary called The Naked Truth that explores the challenges black women in the African community and diaspora face when they are diagnosed with cancer.

It’s now been revealed that Victoria is the latest famous face to sign up to ITV’s The Real Full Monty.

Hosted by Diversity’s Ashley Banjo, the show focuses on celebrities who have all been through their own experiences with cancer. Discussing how it touched their lives or those closest to them, the famous faces then work together on a choreographed routine with the intention of stripping off right at the end, just like the film.

‘Victoria has personal experience of the disease after being diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2021’, a source told The Sun.

‘So when she was asked she jumped at the chance of being involved in The Real Full Monty. She wants to do everything she can to encourage men and women to check themselves and the whole premise of the show is to get people talking.’

It’s said that TOWIE star Gemma Collins and This Morning’s Vanessa Feltz will also be among the cast.

Victoria played the role of Angie in Corrie from 2017-2019.

She has also appeared in the celebrity version of The Chase and last year, she jetted off to the Caribbean to appear in BBC One’s Death in Paradise.
