Coronation Street’s Paul Foreman’s MND timeline ‘unknown’

Coronation street star calls Rob Burrows an inspiration following his set visit

Coronation Street’s Paul Foreman (played by Peter Ash) has been struggling with the recent preliminary diagnosis of limb onset motor neuron disease [MND]. With no cure for the illness, it means that Paul will eventually be leaving the ITV soap leaving behind his family and partner Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank). Peter recently admitted that he didn’t know how long he had left on the series as the timeline was “unknown”.

During Friday night’s episode, Paul approached Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths) on the street and revealed that he hasn’t long to live and needs to earn some cash.

Reluctantly, Damon handed him the details of a bloke called Kyle who is looking for a driver as part of an insurance scam.

Paul has been desperate to keep himself and his family afloat, after promising his sister Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) help with her wedding.

Despite Paul getting a preliminary diagnosis, the referral doctor advised Paul to go and see a neurology specialist to confirm her suspicions of his symptoms.

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press on what’s to come, Peter said: “At the moment we are still playing that Dee-Dee [Bailey] is the only person who knows.

“I think the next block that we will get you [Billy] will find out and then the block after that I think it might…

“We haven’t read to that point yet so we’re still in the early stages of the storyline. I don’t think any of us know the exact timeline yet.

“That’s if it’s not weeks, it’s months and months but we have not got that timeline yet so it is just a case of waiting to see how and when it progresses to that stage.”

On Wednesday night’s episode, Paul was worried that Billy had figured out the truth as to why he has been panicking so much recently.

Returning home to Billy, he asked: “Alright! How was the service? And the hot cross buns? Do you need to let your trousers out?”

Not seeing the funny side, Billy quipped: “Nothing a few press-ups won’t fix. What about you? How was your day?”

Paul lied and said he had been for a walk, but Billy exclaimed: “A walk? That’s what you did with your afternoon?

“I know exactly what you were up to today and it didn’t involve a pair of hiking boots. It would be nice to hear the truth from you, I want to understand what is going on in your head.

“I feel like you are a million miles away and I don’t want that. Booze is not the answer. I ran into George [Shuttleworth] as he was closing up and told me what happened in the pub.”

Paul was relieved to know that Billy didn’t know about his doctor’s appointment and explained that it was just an accident.

How long will he be able to lie to Billy before he eventually has to tell him the truth?

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm on ITV.
