Dancing On Ice fans confused as Matt Hancock appears in audience and teases stint

Matt Hancock was one of the well known faces in the Dancing On Ice audience at Sunday's live show, with the former health secretary attending the ITV show with girlfriend Gina Coladangelo.

The I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star, 44, could be seen sitting on the front row alongside Gina, 45, and famous faces such as Christopher Biggins, 74, and Paul Chuckle, 75.

Presenter Holly Willoughby, 41, headed over to Matt for a chat after the first few celebrity contestants had skated and quizzed the politician about whether he'd ever take part in Dancing On Ice in the future.

"It's great to be here," Matt told Holly, who then proceeded to ask him what kind of music could encourage him to get up and dance.

The 44 year old said: "I dance to almost anything, it's more enthusiasm than talent though. A bit of Queen, a bit of Don't Stop Me Now. That might get me going."

Holly wondered if Matt could be eyeing up a spot on the show in the future following his I'm A Celeb stint at the end of 2022, and asked the MP: "Would you pop on a sequin and hop on our ice?"

He admitted: "I think I could do with dressing up a bit, but this is nothing – I mean it is so hard. Eating cockroaches is nothing compared to how difficult this is."

Viewers were left confused over Matt's random appearance on the show and interview.

Taking to Twitter, one person said: "Why is Matt Hancock in the #DancingOnIce audience tonight? After I’m A Celeb, he’s really taking this showbiz life to the extreme."

A different account put: "Seriously can someone answer me why Matt Hancock is in the audience? I need to know why #dancingonice."

Another follower wrote: "Why is Matt Hancock randomly in the dancing on ice audience sat next to Paul chuckle #DancingOnIce."

While a different viewer added: "Why is Matt Hancock in the crowd for #DancingOnIce?"

Matt appeared on I'm A Celebrity in 2022 and came in third place despite his appearance on the show proving to be controversial.

The former health secretary appeared on the show while parliament was sitting last Autumn and had the Conservative Party whip suspended for jetting off to Australia when he should have been focussing on his work as an MP.

At the time, Matt said he was going on I’m A Celebrity to “show what I am like as a person” as well as raising awareness of dyslexia.

He added: "And no, it wasn’t the cheque that changed my mind. I will be making a donation to St Nicholas Hospice in Suffolk and causes supporting dyslexia off the back of my appearance."

The since release of the MP’s register of financial interests shows his I'm A Celeb pay packet was a whooping £320,000, while the Mirror has revealed the amount donated to charity is £10,000.

A spokesperson for the politician-turned-reality TV star told the publication: "As well as raising the profile of his dyslexia campaign in front of 11-million viewers, Matt's donated £10,000 to St Nicholas Hospice in Suffolk and the British Dyslexia Association, off the back of his appearance on I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here."

They are yet to comment on if more cash will make its way to charitable foundations.

Dancing On Ice airs on Sundays on ITV.
