Britain’s Got Talent: The Ultimate Magician will see judges David Walliams, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and special guest judge Penn Jillette on the panel. The show will take a look at the best magicians across the globe competing against one another to be crowned the winner.
Presenter Stephen Mulhern will host the special edition of Britain’s Got Talent, with 10 magical acts taking to the stage.
The winner will be chosen by the theatre audience and will take away a staggering prize of £50,000.
Speaking on the Got Talent special, David revealed to ITV: “Yeah. Lots of surprises along the way.
“I knew who the acts were, who was coming on, but beyond that, I didn’t know anything else. So, yeah, there were some brilliant surprises. I think people are going to be very entertained.”
David also explained how excited he was when he found out there was going to be a magician’s special of the show.
He said: “I was excited because there’s always a real kind of showmanship with magicians. So there are always surprises.
“There’s always drama. There’s sometimes comedy. But they tend to be amongst the best acts we’ve seen. And the magicians we’ve seen on the show, over the years, have just gotten better and better.
“I think the show’s become more and more credible for magicians to do. So the good thing is we get better and better people.
“But there are so many ways to do magic so they were all different. It’s an amazing showcase for the world’s best magicians, this show, it really is.
“As the judges, it was incredible, because we just got a front-row seat to the best show on TV. It was great.”
This will reportedly be David’s last stint on the show following claims made by former contestants.
He was forced to apologise for some foul-mouthed comments he made about contestants in 2020.
It was alleged that he called a contestant a “c***” three times and mocked others during breaks in their filming.
In a statement addressing the allegations, David said: “I would like to apologise to the people I made disrespectful comments about during breaks in filming for Britain’s Got Talent in 2020.
“These were private conversations and – like most conversations with friends – were never intended to be shared. Nevertheless, I am sorry.”
Touching on his reported departure, a source told The Sun: “He hasn’t taken the decision lightly, but it just feels like time to move on.
“David has decided to bow out after a ten-year run. He wants to leave on a high after a wonderful time.
“His team have quietly been having conversations over the past few days where it has been made clear that David is readying himself to step down – and then producers will start to think about who might replace him.”
Since the news of his exit was reported, Ladbrokes have tipped Love Island narrator Iain Stirling as the favourite to replace him.
Comedians Mo Gilligan and Joe Lycett follow close behind with 6/1 with Piers Morgan bagging a 33/1 odd for his return.
Britain’s Got Talent: The Ultimate Magician will air on Sunday, December 18 from 8pm on ITV1.
