Phillip Schofield's former This Morning colleague Dr Ranj appeared on Morning Live as he made a veiled dig at the disgraced TV star.

Introducing Dr Ranj, Gethin Jones said: "Let's start with something we've never actually spoken about on Morning Live before, and that's dealing with suicidal thoughts

"These feelings affect one in five people in the UK and they can be really hard to talk but for the first time someone is going to be in the studio to talk about their feelings to us."

He added: "Ranj, unfortunately you've experienced these dark sort of thoughts and were the child of someone with mental health issues and you've even had suicidal thoughts yourself."

Dr Ranj responded: "Yeah and the reason we're talking about this is not to scare people, it's to show that this can happen to absolutely anyone, and it is going to be okay."

Gethin replied: "As your friends and colleagues, we know you're having a particularly tough week of it, we're not going to go into, but it has affected your mental health, it is safe to say."

The doctor then said: "For me, it is being aware of my feelings and using time self-care. Self-care is not selfish, and I try pacing myself so I don't do everything at the same time

It's leaning on those around as well, it's not even leaning on them, it's showing kindness to others that makes me feel better."

Many of Phillip's former co-stars and This Mornign guests, including Amanda Holden, Eamonn Holmes and Kim Woodburn have spoken out about his behaviour on set.

Dr Ranj's comments come after he made a statement about his time on This Morning, claiming he encountered "bullying behaviour" and a "toxic environment".

He wrote: "I genuinely loved and valued working there. However over time I grew increasingly worried about how things were behind-the-scenes and how people, including myself, were being treated."

"I didn't know the truth about what was going on with Phillip, but I do know the issues with (This Morning) go far beyond him."

Morning Live airs weekdays at 9.15am on BBC.
