EastEnders fans all say the same thing as they fume over Ryan’s brief return

EastEnders fans' happiness was short-lived after learning that former resident Ryan Malloy is returning to the square.

Neil McDermott is set to reprise his role as Lily Slater's father next week following the discovery that the 12-year-old is pregnant.

Viewers were ecstatic after the announcement was made, but despite the growing excitement, they were soon gutted to learn the actor's return is simply a guest stint, meaning he won't be here for long.

Taking to reddit, one disappointed viewer fumed: "I'm getting tired of these actors using EastEnders as a halfway home."

They added: "Not a fan of short stints either. I honestly don't know why Clenshaw keeps doing them. The show in my opinion desperately needs a new family but all we're getting are these short-stint characters."

"I'm glad Ryan is returning to #EastEnders. However I wish it was a permanent return rather than a short stint," added another.

Someone else echoed: "OMG!! A few weeks ago I was watching the episode when Ryan found out he was Lily's dad, and thought it would be nice to see him back on the square….and now HE IS!! Only a short stint unfortunately."

While a fourth penned: "There was no way Ryan wasn't returning. A shame it's only for a short stint though. #EastEnders."

Neil, who first appeared as the half-brother of Whitney Dean back in 2009, recently discussed his return and revealed his character is back with an agenda.

"Ryan comes back with a bit of an agenda of his own," he explained.

The soap star continued: "He’s of course not been around for a while, so whatever he thinks should be the right thing, isn’t going to be taken too well by Stacey and other members of the Square.

"We learn that he’s doing alright for himself and has money that could help the situation."

The actor added: "He’s carefully trying to tread his way through to become a bigger part of Lily’s life, but it's whether or not Stacey, Lily and the family want him around."
