EastEnders spoiler – Callum snoops into George’s past as he plays detective over Rose

EastEnders is gearing up for a shock-filled week as upcoming episodes are set to reveal exactly what the secret is that newcomers the Knight family have been hiding.

Boxer George Knight (Colin Salmon) has set tongues wagging since he arrived in Albert Square – his reputation from his fighting career, where he was dubbed The Nightmare, preceded him, but his mysterious family ties were what really got the Walford residents talking.

George proposed to his partner Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe), who also happens to be Linda Carter's (Kellie Bright) mum, after taking over the Queen Vic.

But George's own daughters Gina (Francesca Henry) and Anna (Molly Rainford) were also upset by the proposal because their mother, Rose, has been missing since she apparently walked out on the family nine years ago.

Now, viewers look set to find out the real story behind her absence as a suspicious Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) digs further into the distant past of the Knights after being tipped off by a worried Linda.

Phil is nervy about going into business with George when there are secrets at play, and so he asks Callum (Tony Clay) to have a root around in the police records to see if there are any skeletons lurking.

But while Callum doesn't turn up anything on George, it all starts to look rather odd when he checks out Rose's name – and finds that access to any files about her is denied.

Colin told Metro of his character's predicament: "Some people think he killed Rose, so it’s been nine years of mystery and heartache on top of suspicion and misunderstanding.

"It’s hard if you are a member of a family and your spouse has gone missing, everyone thinks they know what’s going on."

Whatever the true story turns out to be is set to be revealed in Wednesday and Thursday's episodes, which will air simultaneously on BBC One and BBC iPlayer so that all soap fans can watch the revelation together.

Elsewhere on the Square this week, Ben's ongoing struggles with his eating disorder lead him to make a terrible mistake with Lexi.

He has been trying to encourage Lexi to move in with him by decorating her room, but when she says she wants to speak at mum Lola's funeral Ben tries to forbid her, believing it will be too much for her.

Jay tries to help resolve things and they decide to take Lexi out to lunch, but when Jay has to leave to take a phonecall, Ben, who is battling bulimia, panics when he realises the toilets are out of order.

He runs out into the Square, leaving Lexi wandering alone and overcome by grief before Billy finds her, furious that Ben has let her down.
