EastEnders star quits acting for a very different job

Former EastEnders star Liam Bergin has left acting behind in order to pursue a new career as a yoga teacher after learning the skill in India.

Liam is perhaps best known to soap fans as Danny Mitchell, estranged half-brother to the iconic Mitchell sisters, Ronnie and Roxy (Samantha Womack and Rita Simons).

He first hit our screens in 2010 when he gate-crashed dad Archie’s funeral, announcing that he was his son.

This turned out not be the case, making Ronnie and Roxy his half-sisters through mum Glenda Mitchell (Glynis Barber).

He spent several weeks working behind the bar at the Queen Vic, but ends up leaving after kissing Amira Masood.

Just a month later he was back on the Square, but things soon turned nasty as Glenda revealed that he had lied about being Archie’s son.

After this four month stint, he left the square, but returned in December 2016 with mum Glenda to bring Roxy, who was struggling with a cocaine addiction, home.

They soon received an invite to Ronnie’s ill-fated wedding, but eventually left the square again following the sisters’ tragic deaths.

Now, Liam’s career has taken a new direction, as he has become a yoga instructor.

During a trip to India, Liam spent time practicing the discipline and has been teaching it ever since, often posting tutorials on his Instagram.

Alongside this, he has kept his foot in the door of the entertainment industry, taking on directing roles in theatre.

His most recent credit was as director of Morally Grey at Bristol’s Lightbox Theatre.

While Liam has left acting behind, his on-screen family are still in the business, with Rita Simons having recently announced that she will be joining Hollyoaks, where Glynis Barber is already playing gangland boss Norma.

Elsewhere, it has been announced that Sam Womack will be joining the cast of Jack and the Beanstalk for the Birmingham Hippodrome’s panto season.

She is also currently starring in the UK tour of 42nd Street the musical.
