Emmerdale actress Samantha Giles is set to leave the Dales for the fourth time since her 1998 debut.

A source told The Sun: "Bernice Blackstock has been in and out of Emmerdale village more than they change the barrels at The Woolpack.

"She’s always welcomed back with open arms by ITV and fans alike, but it’s now becoming a bit of a running joke.

"It wouldn’t pay to bet on whether Samantha will one day be back, but for now she will leave the soap later this year."

She first appeared on the soap for four years in 1998 before leaving in 2002 before joining Hollyoaks in 2008 as Valerie Holden, a role she had for two years.

Two years later, she returned to Emmerdale for her longest stretch, appearing for seven years before deciding to take a step back in 2019 to write her children's books Rosemary and the Witches of Pendle Hill.

She made her most recent return in 2021 but looks set to take another break from her famous character, who has been involved in plenty of dramatic storylines.

Daily Star has contacted ITV for comment.

The report comes after an Emmerdale fan revealed they accidentally stumbled across some confidential scripts from the ITV soap in a bin.

They told The Sun: "I was putting a bottle in the dustbin and the script was just there. It was a normal black bin on the set behind where the props for Chloe Harris’s house are.

"I just went to put a plastic bottle in and all of a sudden I saw the scripts, so I snapped a photo of them.

"The idea that such a famous production would leave scripts just lying around like that really is shocking, especially when in the wrong hands it could be used for other, more sinister reasons."

ITV said: 'We do take security very seriously as we know our audience don’t like knowing plotlines in advance.

'We will try to get to the bottom of how these scripts went missing.'
