Gino D’Acampo confirms new ITV series after quitting Road Trip

Gino explains why he stepped back from Road Trip series

Gino D’Acampo is set to head back to his homeland, Italy, in a new series for ITV as he explores the southern region of the country, visiting Puglia and Basilicata.

The series, called Gino’s Italy: Secrets of the South, will run for six episodes with the chef visiting some of the most romantic regions.

Gino will explore how ancient civilisations, such as the Greeks and Byzantine occupiers, left their mark.

Speaking of the new series, he said: “Italians are proud of our history, but we also keep our secrets, especially when it comes to recipes.

“There is so much more to the country, and these regions, and I can’t wait to uncover some of those hidden gems and bring them to the viewers at home.”

The news comes just weeks after Gino revealed he would not be returning to Gordon, Gino and Fred’s Road Trip on Instagram.

At the time, he told fans his bond with his two co-stars was “more important” than problematic negotiations.

He said: “Because contracts start to become very complicated and very stressful.

“I personally value the friendship with Gordon and Fred so much that I would rather the friendship than arguments with the contract.”

Earlier this week, he appeared on Good Morning Britain to set the record straight on his exit.

He told hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls: “I love the boys and we have a great friendship, that is not the problem, the problem is as I said in the video, it is contracts, they get very over complicated.

“And the main one was about the dates, trying to get the dates together, we tried and we got the dates.

“But then the dates got cancelled and then I thought ‘I can’t do this anymore, this is becoming too stressful.'”

Gino insisted the show was “absolutely not” over and reiterated it simply would not air this year.

“I said this year or next year is not going to happen but if the contract gets right then you know,” he added.

Gino has made numerous TV appearances since the announcement and now ITV viewers will be seeing a lot more of him in Gino’s Italy: Secrets of the South.

A start date has yet to be confirmed by ITV.
