Love Island’s Mehdi wants to ‘make things work’ with Whitney after shock exit with Mal

Love Island star Mehdi Edno has vowed to "make things work" with Whitney Adebayo after being dumped from the villa alongside bombshell Mal Nicol in tonight's instalment from the smash hit reality dating show.

The 26 year old communications manager ventured to the sprawling Spanish villa on day one of the newest season, on a quest for love. He went on to make a connection with bubbly Whitney, who was this series' first female bombshell.

Now, their blossoming romance has been cut short. After leaving, the new reality star has shared his thoughts on his time in the famous villa – and just who he's backing to win.

Mehdi said: "It's always a sad feeling when you have to leave somewhere, but that was such a great experience, I'm so thankful for it. I've met incredible people, and made friends for life. I feel like I could've found love with Whitney, so it's to be continued on that one.

"When you step into the villa, you need to always be ready to leave. I've made it this far and I'm very happy overall." Elaborating on his connection with Whitney – and their oftentimes bumpy relationship – he said: "I'd say it was great. We had ups and downs but if we focus on the ups they were so good.

"Obviously, it's hard for me to leave now as we had something good going on but I'm hopeful we can make things work, for now she needs to live her experience to the fullest."

Whitney wasn't the only one Mehdi was drawn to, after feeling a potential spark with bombshell Leah Taylor. He simply said: "I did want to explore a connection with Leah, but I was always drawn back to Whitney.

Of the couple he thinks will scoop the Love Island prize money and be named this summer's winners, Mehdi is confident. The reality star said: "Ella and Tyrique, they have been a strong couple since day one – they always make the effort with each other. They are both so genuine and like each other. From inside the villa, it was so beautiful to see and I can't wait to watch them blossom even more."

He explained his "besties in the villa" were Jess Harding and Zachariah Noble, branding Zach "like him" as they're "quiet and always chilling". He said Jess "has the purest soul" and is "genuine", adding he felt like a "big brother to her".

When it was confirmed he had been dumped, Mehdi and Whitney shared a tender moment together as they emotionally said their goodbyes. During their final chat in front of the nation, the possibility of Whitney visiting his native France was raised.

Describing how they'd spend their time there, Mehdi said: "We'd have to go and eat some snails. Of course, we would go to romantic restaurants, nice walks, go see the Eiffel Tower in Paris and do whatever she wants to do. I'd be her tour guide."

Of his favourite memory from his tenure in the show, the 26 year old said: "Every day was my favourite. There was never a boring or sad day. But nothing can top the day you walk into the villa. You're so excited to be there, and you're so happy to meet new people and you know you're all going through the same thing. You know they're going to become family. It was amazing."

Fellow dumped Islander Mal Nicol understood why she found herself booted from the villa. She said: "At first I didn't realise what had just happened and then I realised everyone was looking at me.

"I think you can tell I didn't even comprehend what had just happened. It was a long pause – I had time to reflect and I haven't been here as long as everyone else. I wouldn't change it for the world, everything happens for a reason. I know who I am and I know the people there thought very highly of me. They were just so kind to me."
