CBS’ hit procedural drama NCIS Hawaii is expected to return to screens next week with its second season. Ahead of its release, bosses revealed the show will look into Lucy Tara’s (played by Yasmine Al-Bustami) backstory.

NCIS Hawaii made its monumental debut in 2021 with Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) leading the team of agents as they investigated crimes related to military and national security.

As she was the first female Special Agent in Charge, this made the actress the first woman to star as a lead in the NCIS franchise.

As well as the gripping investigation, viewers also tuned in to watch the show’s LGBT love story unfold.

Junior agent Lucy Tara and FBI agent Kate Whistler (Tori Anderson) finally met their happy ending after a complicated romance.

With season two fast approaching, viewers could find out more about Lucy, as executive producer Chris Silber revealed.

“As we dig deeper into the relationship between Lucy and Whistler, we will absolutely get to know both of them better.

“Unraveling their pasts to allow us to understand where they’re heading,” the showrunner told TV Line.

As a result, viewers could find out more about her past relationships as well as her upbringing which could make sense of her choices.

During the season finale, Tara and Whistler reunited with a kiss and agreed to give their romance another go following a brief breakup.

Throughout the season, things seemed to be going well for the couple until Whistler’s ex arrived in town.

It turned out the pair had not formally broken up and Whistler hadn’t told Tara, as she feared the agent would leave her.

After finding out the truth, Tara did just that and dumped Whistler for not giving her the full truth.

While fans were heartbroken to see them go their separate ways, they were even more thrilled when the characters rekindled their romance.

A devastated Whistler sought advice from friend and cyber specialist Jason Antoon (Ernie Malik) about how to regain Tara’s trust.

He suggested she should show a grand gesture of love.

When Tennant welcomed guests for a potluck, Whistler began to serenade Tara with her rendition of Bob Dylan’s Make You Feel My Love.

Although Tara was taken aback by surprise the pair eventually kissed, while the other guests cheered at their reconciliation.

Whistler and Tara’s romance became a huge favourite among fans who adored their relationship and adoringly nicknamed them ‘Kacy’.

Their LGBT romance gained the duo a legion of fans who commended the show for its progressive storylines.

With season two expected to delve into Tara’s backstory, viewers could learn about her past relationships with women as well as why she chose to become a field agent.

NCIS Hawaii will premiere on CBS on Monday, September. 19. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
