Phillip Schofield’s statements are adding ‘more salt into the wounds’ for ITV

GB News panel say Schofield’s comments adding ‘salt to wound’ for ITV

Earlier this month, Phillip Schofield left This Morning with immediate effect following speculation he had fallen out with his co-host Holly Willoughby.

Breaking the news with a statement on his Instagram, he told his followers he’d be seen at the Soap Awards and decided to leave the show he loves in order to protect it.

However, since then he’s left the broadcaster completely after confessing he had an affair with a much younger male colleague.

In a statement, the 61-year-old apologised for lying to ITV, senior management, fellow presenters and his agency about the relationship.

Following his statements, former This Morning host Eamonn Holmes launched a scathing rant on Phillip and ITV when speaking to Dan Wootton on GB News where he branded him a “narcissist” who abused his power.

During the attack, Eamonn claimed ITV would pay for the young man’s taxi fare from Phillip’s house to the ITV studios.

Although ITV has since stated that an investigation was launched early in 2020 when rumours of a relationship first speculated, both parties denied the allegations.

They then highlighted Phillip’s statement which he released on Friday evening where he admitted to lying.

Speaking about the controversy on GB News, Showbiz reporter Stephanie Takyi called for an independent investigation to be launched over more evidence now being revealed.

GB News host Ellie Costello highlighted that the accounts office would have known about the taxi fare from Phillip’s house which goes against what they’ve said.

She commented: “That is at odds with what they’ve said, that they’ve thoroughly investigated and it would suggest that it was all done under their watch.”

Agreeing, Stephanie said: “That’s why we need this to be investigated independently. This is why I think Phillip Schofield coming out with statements like he did yesterday, is not doing the show no more favours.

“It’s actually adding more salt into the wounds, you’re getting a lot of people’s backs up, people who are waiting to speak out.

“So, I don’t know why Phillip Schofield thinks he’s holier than thou and he’s still going to be trying to protect the show because he isn’t.”

More recently, Phillip made a statement after Doctor Ranj Singh accused the culture on the show of being “toxic”.

Posting on his Instagram stories, the former This Morning host wrote: “Now I no longer work on This Morning I am free to say this. I hope you have noticed that it’s the same handful of people with a grudge against me or the show who seem to have the loudest voice.

“This Morning IS the best show to work on, with the best people. In all the years I worked there there was no toxicity. You can listen to those persistently loud voices if you like.

“But the thousands of guests over the years, thousands of staff and crew, hundreds of presenters and contributors all know, it IS a family of wonderful, talented, kind, hard-working people.” (sic)
