Real life soap couple 'make memories' in special trip away

Hollyoaks star Nikki Sanderson has got us dreaming about sandy beaches, sparkling sea and delicious food after she posted a video on her Instagram of her recent holiday in Mallorca.

Nikki jetted off with her partner, former Emmerdale and Hollyoaks star Anthony Quinlan, for what she said was a ‘last minute trip last weekend.’

Nikki, who plays Maxine Minniver in Hollyoaks, said that the break had been ‘just what the doctor ordered,’ adding that the couple were ‘Making Memories in Mallorca ❤️’

The reel shows them enjoying the sunshine, although at one point after a run Anthony describes the temperature as ‘Absolutely boiling,’ as much of the Mediterranean has been seeing record temperatures.

The loved-up couple seem to be having a great time, enjoying some delicious-looking meals in scenic beach restaurants, out for walks or having a drink in the shade. They’re also seen in a supermarket stocking up on some essentials, but even a supermarket can be part of the fun when you’re on holiday.

Nikki and Anthony, who was previously in a relationship with Strictly Come Dancing star Dianne Buswell, started dating last year.

‘I slid into the DMs and that was it. I was lucky enough to get a date and the rest is history,’ Anthony told the Sun. He talked about how he and Nikki share a lot of common interests, and because she’s ‘quite keen into health and fitness’ she’s supportive of his current business venture as the owner of vegan supplement brand BoxedOff.

Anthony played Pete Barton on Emmerdale from 2013 to 2020. Prior to that he was well known to viewers after playing Gilly Roach on Hollyoaks for six years.

Nikki, meanwhile, is also a veteran of more than one soap, having played Candice Stowe in Coronation Street from 1999 to 2005.

She took up her current role in Hollyoaks in 2012 and she’s been part of some huge storylines. They included the recent Long Walk Home episode, which highlighted the issue of women’s safety.

The episode showed what happened when Maxine became separated from her friends on a night out and was brutally attacked on her way home. Nikki told us that it was a story she was proud of taking on and it was putting across an important message.

‘It’s not about the person that’s been attacked, it’s about the person who is doing the attacking, they need to be educated that it’s not right and people can live their lives as they wish to in a safe environment,’ she said.
