Kara Tointon recently appeared on Genevieve Hassan’s hit podcast Celebrity Catch Up: Life After That Thing I Did. The former soap star touched on her experience appearing on Strictly Come Dancing 12 years ago before being crowned champion. However, she revealed taking the trophy home isn’t all it appears to be.
Back in 2010, former EastEnders actress Kara took to the dance floor in hopes of being crowned that year’s Strictly champion.
Competing against people such as Matt Baker, Ann Widdicombe, Tina O’Brien and Michelle Williams, the soap star managed to impress the judges and public at home all the way to the final.
In the end, Kara was crowned the winner of the series as she raised the famous Glitterball in celebration with her dancing partner Artem Chigvintsev.
Speaking on the podcast Celebrity Catch Up: Life After That Thing I Did, she told host Genevieve she still can’t believe she won.
Kara commented: “Honestly, it’s my victory in life and I take it in both hands. I’ve got that Glitterball upstairs, it’s now bald!”
Genevieve mentioned she heard her trophy from the show has now lost its sparkle as all the mirror tiles have fallen off.
Kara added: “It’s a bloomin’ bald, a grey cardboard ball!
“I feel like saying to the BBC, ‘I need some maintenance on this please if you can get around here and shimmy it on together again.”
When asked if the famous Glitterball trophy was only made of cardboard, the actress revealed all.
She replied: “Yeah! Outrageous isn’t it?”
The podcast host joked it should come with a lifetime guarantee like a bag for life that you get at the supermarket.
Elsewhere in the interview, the former soap star touched on her time on Strictly Come Dancing before winning the series.

Kara commented: “You’re doing something that is completely out of your comfort zone in every sense, but a really one-off life experience that I look back at so fondly.”
With the semi-finals of the current series right around the corner, it’s almost time to discover which celebrity will walk away victorious.
Currently, actor Will Mellor has been a consistent fan-favourite throughout the competition as he’s consecutively remained on the top end of the leaderboard.
In last weekend’s quarter-final, the actor was awarded a total score of 39 putting him in joint top place with Countryfile’s Helen Skelton.
Not far behind are Molly Rainford and Fleur East who are in joint second with a score of 38.
Despite her high score, Molly found herself in the bottom two as she had to go into the dance-off against Morning Live’s Kym Marsh.
However, the judges decided Molly would remain in the competition as Kym was sent home.
