Stu and Yasmeen get closer in Corrie – but what secret is he hiding?
It was a huge episode for Stu Carpenter (Bill Fellows) on Coronation Street tonight when he finally came face to face with his daughter Bridget (Beth Vyse) – whom he hasn’t seen for 34 years.
Stu was angry when he discovered that Yasmeen (Shelley King) had used her friend at the library to help hunt down Bridget’s address, but Kelly (Millie Gibson) encouraged him to try to make contact with his daughter even though he was terrified about the reaction he might get.
Sure enough, when Bridget answered the door to him and realised who he was, she told him to leave. Trying to convince her to talk to him, Stu made what was for viewers a shock revelation.
‘I didn’t hurt that girl – I promise I didn’t,’ he told his daughter. Bridget’s hostile reaction to her dad, who told her, ‘I haven’t stopped thinking about you for 34 years,’ clearly showed that she feels he is guilty of something that’s so bad it stops her from even thinking of having a relationship with him.
What could Stu’s terrible secret be? Who was the girl that he claims he didn’t hurt, and did he really hurt her?
Back in Coronation Street, Stu was upset to see Yasmeen on a date with Stephen (Todd Boyce), but she really wasn’t interested in the smooth-talking fashion entrepreneur and soon ditched him to go and talk to Stu.
They had a bit of banter, with Yasmeen calling Stu her ‘homie’ before admitting she had no idea what that meant. He told her he’d like to be more than just homies (despite not knowing what it means).
Yasmeen told him she was still healing from the awful mental scars inflicted by Evil Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew), and asked him to be patient with her. ‘I never thought I’d be with someone again but you make me want to try,’ she said, which is a huge step forward for Yasmeen. Tentatively, she took Stu’s hand.
As they headed home hand in hand, Stu threw Bridget’s address away. But is his past going to come back to haunt him?
And is Yasmeen really wise to be putting her fragile trust in the hands of someone who apparently has a dreadful secret past?
