Susanna Reid jumped to the defence of Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on Good Morning Britain after Mel B made a cheeky remark about queue jumping.

This Morning presenters Willoughby and Schofield sparked an almighty backlash last week after they appeared inside Westminster Hall to see the Queen lying in state without having taken part in the public queue.

While ITV bosses insisted the pair didn’t skip ahead and were there to report on the event as media, many celebrities have made digs at their expense, including former This Morning host Eamonn Holmes.

On top of that, thousands have signed a petition calling on the pair to be sacked from television.

Spice Girl Mel B threw shade at Willoughby and Schofield during an interview on Tuesday’s Good Morning Britain after she asked Reid what it was like to wait in line for a number of hours with her mother.

‘Like a pilgrimage,’ Reid replied. ‘It was an honour to be with all the other people in the queue.’

Mel B then quipped: ‘No queue jumping for you!’ to which Reid hit back: ‘Well, some people had to work as well.’

Viewers couldn’t help but pick on the moment too, with some applauding Reid’s reply and others praising Mel B for bringing the subject to light.

‘Very diplomatic and professional Susanna in response to Mel B,’ wrote one. ‘Will just say they may have been working but then should have joined the queue (like everyone else who joined the queue after work). Utmost respect to you though.’

Another added: ‘Mel B showing her gratitude to GMB host Susanna Reid for no queue jumping this morning is GOLD. Love this!!!!’

A third said: ‘Respect for @OfficialMelB for trying to get the queue jumping topic out in the open. You can always trust a “Northerner” to say what they mean.’

This Morning bosses said in a statement on Instagram that Willoughby and Schofield had attended Westminster Hall to film a segment due to air during Tuesday’s show.

They said: ‘Hello everyone, we would like to clarify something. We asked Phillip and Holly to be part of a film for this Tuesday’s programme.

‘They did not jump the queue, have VIP access or file past the Queen lying in state – but instead were there in a professional capacity as part of the world’s media to report on the event.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
