Lord Sugar is the face of The Apprentice, putting his own money on the line and offering a successful candidate a whopping £250,000 investment. He is well known for his one-liners and his no-nonsense attitude when it comes to business. While most participating entrepreneurs find him intimidating, one of this year’s candidates couldn’t help but see the funny side.

The Apprentice and business mogul Lord Sugar gives his candidates a task every week that he expects them to make a profit from or impress a team of industry experts.

From dog food and skin care products to business trips and immersive experiences, this year’s contestants have tried it all.

Of course, many things have gone wrong along the way, leaving Lord Sugar less than impressed when it comes to the boardroom.

Fired candidate Avi Sharma enjoyed every minute while they were filming the intense scenes though.

“I found it very hard to not smile, especially when he’s grumbly because I just found it so funny”, Avi said.

“I always thought about how this is really going to look when it’s shown so I wasn’t living in the moment.

“So if he was screaming at us, I was smiling.”

He wasn’t oblivious that Lord Sugar’s bad moods had the opposite effect on him, in comparison with the rest of the candidates.

Avi continued: “You might notice if you watch back, every time he announces my team lost, I would just be there smiling.

“And you look at every other team member and their heads are down, they’re shaking their heads.

“I found it absolutely hilarious. Losing and going into the cafe and discussing where it went wrong.

“But you’re also so excited though. It’s a thrill to be in front of him.”

“He’s very witty. Of course, he’s a genius entrepreneur but he’s very witty as well so just being in front of him, you are always on the edge of your seat,” Avi added.

Avi’s time on The Apprentice came to an end during the male skincare product task.

He was in charge of coming up with the recipe and ended up with a product that stained skin green and, as a result, was fired.

Now, there are just five candidates remaining in the process with an important week airing this evening, Thursday, March 15.

The candidates left in the competition, Megan, Rochelle, Marnie, Victoria and Dani are going to have to have the dreaded interviews.

Each will have to hand over their business plans for them to be scrutinised by some of Lord Sugar’s most trusted colleagues.

They are going to be Claude Littner, Mike Soutar, Linda Plant and, for the first time ever, Karren Brady.

The Apprentice continues every Thursday at 9pm on BBC One.
