What happened to Michelle Keegan's Tina McIntyre in Coronation Street? | The Sun

MANY faces have come and gone from Weatherfield throughout the decades, with some meeting tragic fates.

Coronation Street legend Tina McIntyre was one the unlucky few. But what exactly happened to her?

What happened to Tina McIntyre on Corrie?

Soap bosses gave budding actress Michelle Keegan the chance of a lifetime by portraying the iconic character from her first appearance in 2008.

Following her parents' separation, Tina lived with her mother Ann McIntyre in Weatherfield, where she first met stalwart David Platt (portrayed by Jack P. Shepherd).

The pair of teens met while Tina was visiting the Rosamund Street Medical Centre about her tennis elbow but she was unaware that the receptionist she'd been having trouble with was David's mother Gail (Helen Worth).

Soon after, Tina embarked on a relationship with David and, within a week, they slept together.

Tina found out she was pregnant weeks later, just as she was growing tired of David's jealousy, and she opened up to Gail about the baby.

Gail suggested she should have an abortion and they both agreed not to tell David anything about it.

Despite their rocky beginnings, Gail paid for a private operation to avoid a long wait and she supported Tina throughout the procedure.

David later noticed the change in Tina's behaviour but wrongly assumed she had gone off him and, to save face, decided to end things with her first.

But no secret stays under wraps for too long in the cobbles and David soon confronted Tina about the abortion before suggesting they run away together.

When news about Gail falling down the stairs at No.8 whirled around the Street, David confessed he had pushed her during an argument about the abortion.

He then told Tina he had to tell the police he was with her when Gail fell, taking full advantage of her memory loss after the incident.

Tina was asked to lie and, although she was unhappy about it, she did as David asked.

But when Gail began to remember the events preceding her fall, the pressure became too much for her and she moved back into her own house, breaking up with David.

In her absence, David was confronted with the truth before venting his anger in the Street.

He was later sentenced to four months in Larchfield Young Offenders Institute.

This was the first of many dramatic storylines involving young Tina.

Tina and David often broke up before reconciling again but the final blow to their romance came in 2009, as Gary Windass (Mikey North) began to flirt with her.

When David punched Gary during a heated altercation, Tina was asked to lie to the authorities again while her father Joe tried to convince her to tell the truth.

While in court, Tina eventually decided to follow her father's advice and turned her back on David by saying he started the fight with Gary.

Joe later went on to date Gail, which embarrassed both Tina and David and she moved on to Corrie hunk Jason Grimshaw.

But following an argument with the latter, Tina met up with a handsome stranger at a bar – who turned out to be none other than David's half-brother Nick Tilsley.

Nick vowed to keep Tina a secret when they realised each other's identity on Christmas Day.

In 2010, Jason asked Tina to marry him but the relationship came to a halt following her father's death.

Tina found comfort in the form of David's former cellmate, Graeme Proctor and they embarked on their own romance, leaving David devastated.

When Graeme was run over, Tina believed David had done it all on purpose to hurt him.

She also found herself a job as a barmaid at the Rovers and, when she found out that her friend Xin Chiang was about to get deported back to China, she came up with a plan to get Graeme, her boyfriend, to marry her.

Unfortunately, this led to Graeme and Xin having an affair behind her back and they left the cobbles together for London.

One of Tina's biggest storylines aired in 2013, when she agreed to be a surrogate mother for Gary Windass and his then-girlfriend Izzy Armstrong, who couldn't have children.

She gave birth to a baby boy in May, 2013, but had a change of heart and wanted to keep the child, planning to name him Joe.

But when she saw the pain if caused the family, she relented and gave the new-born, who was named Jake, away.

Tina was also romantically involved with Tommy Duckworth but their relationship ended while she was allowing David to stay with her after he'd been kicked out of his home by his wife Kylie.

Eventually, her path led her straight to Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) and the pair embarked on an affair, despite his relationship with Carla Connor (Alison King).

When it became clear to her Peter would not be leaving Carla, despite Tina's plans to run away with him, she threatened to expose their affair and put Tracy Barlow's (Kate Ford) reputation in danger again.

This prompted Tracy's then-other half Rob Donovan (who was also Carla's brother) to get involved.

Rob followed Tina to the balcony of the Builder's Yard and, after a confrontation, pushed her away, causing her to fall.

Tina survived but when she assured Rob she would send him down, a desperate Rob grabbed a metal pole and brutally beat her with it.

Carla found Tina and she was taken to hospital as she was still alive.

She remained in critical condition and had to have major surgery to reduce the swelling on her brain.

Despite the doctors' best efforts, she died a few days later, with her funeral taking place on June, 2014.

She is buried alongside her father, Joe.
