What happened to Will Mellor's character Harvey Gaskell in Coronation Street? | The Sun

MANY villains have terrorised the cobbles over the decades but none quite matched Harvey Gaskell.

The murderous villain's shadow still hangs above Coronation Street – but what happened to him?

What happened to Harvey Gaskell on Corrie?

Before becoming a drug lord, Harvey was born to Wayne Gaskell and his wife and was one of two sons.

His mother died when he was only fourteen years old and his father followed shortly, leading to his aunt Sharon to inherit his estate.

Sharon also took in both Harvey and his brother Damon, although the former gained control as he got older and more involved in a life of crime.

He slowly moved up to the rank of ruthless drug dealer, resorting to using children to do some of his dirty work.

His nephew, Jacob Hay (Jack James Ryan) was one of them and the lad became involved in a plot to groom Simon Barlow (Alex Bain).

The criminal first appeared in Weatherfield on March 12, 2021, and proceeded to threaten Simon and Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) and force them to do drug deals for him.

Leanne was having none of this and reported Harvey to the police, which led to his arrest.

Harvey was held in custody when he reached out to his aunt Sharon, a former Corrie resident living with Rita Tanner, and asked her to find Leanne's whereabouts.

At the time, Leanne was in witness protection as the authorities knew Harvey would seek revenge for her actions.

But Sharon wasn't particularly interested in getting involved in Harvey's plan – until he threatened her with taking away all her fortune if she didn't comply.

She eventually fled the Street when her link to Harvey was exposed but later testified against him for her own freedom.

Harvey was found guilty and Sharon took over his entire empire before completely cutting ties with him.

This could have been the end of Harvey's story in Corrie but he had another trick up his sleeve for Leanne and bloodshed quickly ensued.

Later in 2021, Harvey managed to escape a police transit van during a storm and he returned to the cobbles on Halloween to get his revenge.

But when he mistakenly thought he'd spotted Leanne, Harvey ended up shooting Natasha Blakeman, leaving her young son Sam devastated.

Harvey kidnapped Leanne and forced her to drive but she crashed the vehicle into a wall.

Heavily injured, Harvey was then arrested by the police, facing a charge for the murder of Natasha Blakeman when she died of her injuries.

Harvey was sentenced to life in prison for the murder and wasn't heard of for months before Sam (Jude Riordan) decided to correspond with him in a shocking twist.

In October, 2022, near the first anniversary of his mother's death, Sam began looking for answers but his father Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and Leanne desperately tried to stop him from communicating with Harvey.

The couple found out about the letters through Harvey himself as he contacted Leanne and requested to see her.

Harvey told the Bistro co-owner that Sam had been sending him about four letters a week and he wanted it all to stop out of fear the other inmates would make fun of him.

He was finally faced with Sam when Nick agreed to let him ask all the questions he wanted.

Initially confident in front of the little boy, Harvey was extremely startled when Sam got him to open up and show a softer side of himself.

This led to Harvey giving Nick money for the Bistro – but another can of worms was then quickly opened upon the arrival of Damon Hay in Weatherfield.

Harvey was last heard of in December, 2022, as he was given a brutal beating in prison on Damon's orders.

He was moved to another facility for his safety.

What TV shows has Will Mellor been in since Coronation Street?

Villainous Harvey has been portrayed by English actor Will Mellor since he first rocked up the cobbles.

Hailing from Bredbury, in Greater Manchester, the soap star is also known as a singer and a model.

The 46-year-old kicked off his TV career with a five-episode-long stint in the drama Children's Ward in 1990, where he played the part of Ben Rowlingson.

These brief appearances opened the doors to fame for him as he quickly made his way to Channel 4's eponymous Chester village, Hollyoaks.

In the mid-nineties, Will was cast as happy-go-lucky James "Jambo" Bolton in the long-running program.

The original character was Will's first experience in soap land and he portrayed Jambo, a jack-the-lad with an eye for the ladies, for three years before moving on to Casualty in 2001.

Will appeared as series regular Jack Vincent in 72 episodes of the medical drama, before briefly reprising his Hollyoaks role in 2004 just in time for Christmas.

Another major TV credit includes Will's performance as Gaz Wilkinson in Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, a character he played for a decade, from the show's beginning in 2001 until its last episode in 2011.

His commitment to the sitcom still didn't stop him from showing up in other programs in the likes of Murder Investigation Team, Merlin, Agatha Christie's Marple, Unforgiven and Waterloo Road among many others.

Will clearly has an affinity with life in soap land as he's also appeared as Warren Stamp in EastEnders.

After his swan song in Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, Will was thrown into life as a big name on the box and the work came flowing in.

He starred as a main cast member in the ITV crime drama Broadchurch before moving on to In The Club, Death In Paradise, Line of Duty and was also seen as Ollie Curry in White Van Man.

In 2021, Corrie bosses finally came up with the right role for him and he made his way to Weatherfield as the villain we all know and love to hate.

Most recently, Will appeared as a contestant in Strictly Come Dancing, where he was partnered up with Nancy Xu.

The pair made it to the semi-finals and were eliminated in December, 2022, earning the fifth place.

Will Mellor's final appearance in the Manchester-based soap was shown to viewers in mid-December, 2022, with ITV confirming this would be the last we see of him.

But with plenty of links still remaining in the cobbles, particularly in the form of Rita Tanner, Sharon Bentley's foster mother, there's still a chance Harvey could come back to terrorise Weatherfield again.
