Ukraine's bravest soldier single-handedly takes on Russian TANK as he opens fire unfazed by barrage of shells and blasts | The Sun

THIS is the moment Ukraine's fiercest soldier single-handedly took on a Russian tank.

Extraordinary footage shows the courageous soldier calmly fighting back against a relentless barrage of shells and blasts from Putin's troops.

Drone footage shows the lone Ukrainian fighter coming face-to-face with a Russian armoured personnel carrier (APC).

The brave soldier is seen holed up in a trench as he dodges a hail of endless gunfire from the Russian forces.

Video shows him diving for cover as blast after blast smashes the trench.

Undaunted by the bombardment, the heroic soldier emerges to fire shots back at the Russian onslaught.

The incredible video, shared on Twitter, was captioned: "Our hero under heavy fire one-on-one with an APC.

"Books should be written about these people, and they are just silently defending our country."

It's not known where the footage was filmed – but there's intense fighting in the ruined city of Bakhmut.

Ukrainian forces have managed to cling onto their position in the city – which is under constant attack from Russian troops.

Russia said seizing Bakhmut would open the way to fully controlling the rest of the Donbas region bordering Russia.

The Ukraine military general staff said Putin's troops are continuing to advance toward Bakhmut and "storming the city".

But fierce Ukrainian forces have managed to repel attacks.

Volodymyr Zelensky said his forces "are keeping each sector of the front under control".

And Ukrainian member of parliament Serhiy Rakhmanin told NV radio: "I believe that sooner or later, we will probably have to leave Bakhmut. There is no sense in holding it at any cost.

"But for the moment, Bakhmut will be defended with several aims – firstly, to inflict as many Russian losses as possible and make Russia use its ammunition and resources."

Thousands of civilians remain in the battered city as Russian forces launch "wave upon wave of attacks".

Military analyst Oleh Zhdanov said the situation was "critical", adding: "There is a danger that our garrison in Bakhmut will be encircled.

"The enemy is attempting to sever the routes used to supply our forces in Bakhmut and halt all movement along them.

"The Russian forces cannot win street battles in Bakhmut or take the city by attacking head-on. The only way they can take the city is to surround it.

"They are applying what can be described as colossal pressure, with wave upon wave of attacks.

"They bring in reinforcements in trucks and take away their wounded aboard the same trucks. This process is constant – like a conveyor belt – around the clock."

Ukraine's military said Russian forces are also making preparations for new attacks in the Zaporizhzhia region and on the southern front in the Kherson region.

It said more than 40 towns and villages have been shelled – including the regional centre of Kherson and towns on the west bank of the Dnipro River.

But Zelensky has vowed a massive Spring offensive in a bid to liberate areas of Ukraine still occupied by Russian forces.

“We are preparing for our warriors to resume actions to liberate our land,” he said after meeting his military chiefs.

“We keep in mind this just goal of ours, and every day we are getting closer to its fulfilment. Ukraine will be free. All of Ukraine."

Meanwhile, drone strikes are edging ever deeper into Russia as Putin appears to have scuttled off to a live with his gymnast girlfriend in a luxurious mansion near Moscow.
