Argentinian fan choked to death after flag draped round neck is caught in motorbike wheel during World Cup celebrations | The Sun

A PARTYING Argentinian fan was choked to death when a flag draped around his shoulders became caught in his motorbike wheel.

Sebastian Oscar Maciel, 22, died instantly at the scene after accidentally depriving himself of oxygen.

He crashed to the ground while celebrating Argentina's monumental World Cup triumph on Sunday in the city of Bahia Blanca in the province of Buenos Aires.

A police source told a local paper: “Various witnesses saw him fall to the ground and realised he had the flag around his neck.

“The investigation is ongoing but the initial hypothesis is that he died from asphyxiation.”

The tragedy comes as euphoric Argentines partied in streets across the world after their nation’s thrilling World Cup final victory against France on Sunday.

The blue and white striped team stormed to victory led by superstar Lionel Messi after 36 elusive years without the golden trophy.

It is the South American champions third victory, after winning a nail-biting penalty shootout after the game finished 3-3 at 120 minutes.

More than a million people congregated around the iconic Obelisk monument in Buenos Aires to celebrate together.

The country welcomed their heroes home on Tuesday by lining the streets on a national holiday devoted to the team's win.
