Dan Wootton denies allegations and claims he’s victim of a ‘smear campaign’ – but admits he made errors of judgement | The Sun

DAN Wootton has denied allegations made against him by an ex-partner and claimed he is the victim of a “smear campaign”.

The journalist, 40, opened his GB News show Dan Wootton Tonight on Tuesday telling viewers any criminal allegations made against him in recent days were “simply untrue”, but admitted errors of judgement had been made.

A report by Byline Times on Monday claimed the alleged behaviour happened over the course of a decade.

Addressing the claims last night, Wootton said: “As a journalist I feel uncomfortable being the story, but I’ve always promised you that this show has no spin and no bias and no censorship so I owe it to you to address this.

“These past few days I have been the target of a smear campaign by nefarious players with an axe to grind.

“Notably by an ex-partner who I was previously abused by and who has been on a campaign to destroy my life.

“In the past he has written to me confessing to being a ‘psychopath’ and I saw this first hand.

“I have been forced to report his behaviour and threats to police, they are now investigating.”

Wootton, an ex-Sun journalist, said his ex-boyfriend created the “untrue story” and is working with an organisation to close down GB News.

The New Zealand-born presenter also said he realises he is “opening up the gates of hell” by speaking out.

He added: “Other unspeakable slurs have been made.

“I, like all fallible human beings, have made errors of judgement in the past but the criminal allegations being made against me are simply untrue.

“I would like nothing more than to address those spurious claims but on the advice of my lawyers I cannot comment further.

“I recognise I’m a polarising figure and by speaking out in this way, I’m opening up the gates of hell on my life.

“But social media has become a race to the bottom.”

Some of the allegations are alleged to have taken place during a period of time when Wootton was working at The Sun newspaper.

Wootton, a former showbiz journalist at the now closed down News Of The World moved to The Sun in 2013 before joining GB News in 2021.

He is now also columnist for MailOnline.

News UK, who own The Sun newspaper, said they are looking into the allegations.

A spokesperson said: “We are looking into the allegations made in recent days. We are not able to make any further comment at this stage."
