‘Guvnor’s’ Paradise: Hatton Garden and Brink’s-Mat mastermind Brian Reader is set to make £2.5M after selling three homes on his Kent estate

  • EXCLUSIVE: Hatton Garden mastermind Brian Reader ‘sold his estate for £2.5M’

The mastermind of the Hatton Garden heist, who also laundered gold stolen in the Brink’s-Mat robbery, is likely set to make millions of pounds from selling his huge estate.

Brian ‘The Guvnor’ Reader, 84, has seemingly accepted offers worth £2.5million for three houses on his 7,149sq ft estate in Dartford, Kent, MailOnline can reveal.

He will garner £900,000 from the sale of his four-bedroom villa-style home, called Pentire, and £1.6million for two more four-bedroom houses, called Holly and Laurel, which are set to sell for £800,000 each.

Reader was the oldest member of the Hatton Garden heist gang, and also stood trial along with Kenneth Noye for the murder of undercover police officer Detective Constable John Fordham, 45, in 1985. Both Reader and Noye were acquitted.

Ageing thief Reader was previously ordered by the Court of Appeal to sell up in 2019.

£3.6million worth of valuables have been returned to its owners, some of it damaged.

Another £689,233 cannot be returned because its owners have not come forward, or because it is not possible to identify who it belongs to.

Reader’s £900,000 home Pentire was described by estate agents Clifton & Co as ‘ a period home influenced by the arts and crafts movement built circa 1920 with orangery and gated off road parking.’

The estate agents said Pentire was ‘one of West Dartford’s remaining hidden gems’.

The estate agents added: ‘The style of architecture is drawn from the character of many houses in the immediate area and incorporating the following detailing reflecting this era: large bay windows, gabled dormer windows, exposed rafter feet, brick interspersed with small sections of vertical tile hanging and brickwork, chimneys with decorative corbelling, traditional sash design windows and traditional gabled roofs.’
