Man tried to behead victim with scissors as he stabbed him 40 times in shop

A man was brutally stabbed 40 times by a caretaker who allegedly tried to behead him with a pair of scissors in a sickening attack.

Edmond Clarke works for the victim's father and was seen going to a convenience store-cum-restaurant in The Trading Post in Burnt Store Marina, Florida on Monday (September 19).

CCTV footage inside the family-owned store shows the 36-year-old grabbing a pair of scissors from the counter and start stabbing the victim multiple times in the head and the neck.

He retrieved other knives that he found inside the store's kitchen area and lunged at him in the torso area in a gruesome attack for several minutes.

Deputies from Lee County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene and sent the victim to hospital for emergency surgery.

Clarke was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

Sheriff Carmine Marceno said: "On September 19, 2022, deputies responded to a stabbing at The Trading Post at Burnt Store Marina in Punta Gorda.

"Deputies arrived on scene and located a victim who had been stabbed more than 40 times in the head, neck, and torso.

"The victim was airlifted to Gulf Coast Medical Center, where they underwent emergency surgery.

"This disgusting crime will not be tolerated in Lee County. I am proud of the quick response of our deputies that helped save the victim’s life, and the hard work of my detectives to take Clarke off the street."

The pair had met up prior to the incident taking place after the victim picked up Clarke from hospital after suffering from abdominal pain, according to local media reports.

After leaving the hospital, Clarke told the victim he was hungry, so the pair stopped at The Trading Post store and were ordering food when the unprovoked attack suddenly began.

Witnesses inside the shop reported hearing Clarke suddenly experiencing hallucinations as he ranted about being targeted by an unknown enemy.
